I do a lot of image processing so I need a fast machine. Right now it's a Dell XPS 9100 with an i7 990X processor and 24MB RAM. It works very well indeed. My wife is a retired educator and therefor a long term Mac user but I lured her to the dark side and she has no regrets and enjoys her windows platform.

I use my ipad to browse the forum, as i can find anywhere comfy and use it. Only really use the PC when I wanna add links / pics to my posts.

Excellent post, one of the best reasons for buying a mac previously, was not buying vista. Windows 7 is a significant improvement but still has issues.

As an engineer I have no choice, CAD, FEA and CFD packages are all PC only platforms, however I can see the beauty in Apple, the fact that they just work, are intuitive, well designed and have that Je ne sais quoi. The only bad side is their marketing which I admire and despise in equal measures, no preorder + 17:00 product release time = maximum exposure of people queuing = maximum inconvenience to their customers = absolute arrogance.

Moved over to Apple when my good lady got herself an iPad. Was told by pimple-faced Apple Store dude that Windows was ancient and used by people who know nothing...
1 year later am I more productive? Nope - but jeez I sure feel cool. Although I have yet to grow a goatee like the guy in Apple Store Regent Street...

A very interesting thread. I have always used PCs but bought a Mac for the house last year, really because I liked the way they looked and also because my PC was just getting incredibly slow. I only use the Mac for photos, music and the internet, it has never slowed down, although I can't say as I will ever totally get used to the mouse. My Laptop is used if I need Office etc.

I have worked in IT Recruitment for nearly 20 years, now running my own company, so PCs have obviously dominated my working life.

Good to see so many IT people on the forum too!

Whats good taste got to do with it?

I've never understood the appeal of a Mac (and I talk as an ex-IT business manager of 20-odd years experience) other than those instances where certain software packages either run better or were created with the Mac in mind. Other than that a Mac is a PC?

And don't get me started on Apple products. Style over Substance every time. I prefer my gadgets to work properly for more than ten minutes and also not be tied into whatever marketing wheeze Apple has on the go at the time....

So if you are uber-cool and wear a black polo-neck (which probably means you aren't LOL), get yourself a Mac, but Microsoft doesn't 'rule' 90% of the market for no good reason.

By day I work as a system administrator on a Windows based network. I'm glad to get back to my Mac OS after working with Windows all day!! :wink:

iPod 3GS, iPad and iMac at home. Never had a real problem with any of them! Window based laptop, always something going on with that that shouldn't be, and that's on Windows 7!! The disaster that was Windows Vista turned me off Windows!!
