Which code reader?

Hi guys, I know a lot of you do your own maintenance and I'm looking for your advice on a code reader/reset tool. My emission light came on again today and I really do not want to be depending on dealers to tell me what's wrong. Also, I plan to get my ex-mechanic brother to help me with my own servicing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sean

Here's the link:

Worked ok for me

hmm, not sure. never tried to do that. I suppose it can in theory, depends on the software you install on your laptop.

You can also use it to display your engine speed and other data in cool gauges that can be fun to watch, record data etc.

As this is an old post, just a little bump for an update. What would you advise as a good (affordable) code reader for the Z4 E85? And more importantly, if you have a fault code, where can you find the explanation of the fault code?

sorry if this was already covered in another topic

Resurrecting an old thread here because I have ordered this code reader (it'll be arriving tomorrow).

I searched around a bit but haven't seen this one mentioned on the forum, so I thought I'd bring it up. It's called the "C110" Code Reader (or Diagnostic Tool, depending on where you see it), and it has generated some pretty positive reviews. It seems that there are two versions: the C100 is a generic OBD II reader, and the C110 is BMW/Mini specific. Apparently it is pretty deep. Made in China. Display language switchable to German or English.

Anyone here used or heard anything about this thing?

How did you get on with the reader? I've just been charged £39 by my indy garage for a read and reset, so thinking about investing. Advice/experience appreciated!

Is is any better than a d900 I've been looking at on ebay for £18 ?
I've got one. had it for a few years. They will read and erase codes and live info relating to the EML. Good value, simple to use but cannot rest the airbag light.

I'm confused....
Tertius - are you saying that the C110 does reset the airbag light?
Lillywhite - are you saying that the C110 does not or that the D900 does not?

After an afternoon reading the product descriptions and forums, I've bought a D900 (2014 version) for £21 including delivery from Amazon; BUT if the C110 does the Airbag (D900 does not), I may cancel the D900 and buy the C110 for the extra £20....if I can learn and act quickly enough...

I like the fact that the C110 is upgradeable, whereas the D900 is not and seems to have a new version out each year; but there seem to be few reviews or users of it around.

Also does the c110 only do bmw ? The ones on eBay just say bmw

Good point, I forgot to ask that one...

Pretty sure they are BMW only - when you turn it on, you have to select your model from a list, which has BMW and MINI only.

The D900 DOES NOT reset the airbag light - sounds like the C110 does. Can you confirm, I may need to cancel my D900 purchase and opt for the C110, if this is the case.

Thanks.

Now trying to cancel my Amazon order...but they've been quick and are preparing it for dispatch, so I may be a D900 owner after all...
