The M2 isn't out yet

Tim.

Have I missed something ?

I just googled M235i as that was one of the choices and------

Put the engine gearbox and diff from the E92 in the E89 and bin all the pointless electronic toys! :D

But as that was not available I ticked the M3.

Because Tim is talking about the M2 Coupe, the new version of the 1M coupe. You know a 'proper' ///M car, not one of these ones where they take a 135i or a 235i and stick a M badge in front of it.

Not even sure why they called it the M235i possibly due to the F Series 135i getting that treatment but I can't see them making a M335i or a M435i because they have a M3 and a M4 so as they are launching a M2 whilst slso having a not real M car in the M235i

Yepp the M2 isn't due out just yet

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/bmw-launch-m2-coupe-2015

The M135i/235i has the \\\M fettled engine, the rest i.e. chassis etc is standard BMW so they deserve half an M badge  but then you could argue any M sport spec model shouldn't be wearing the badge :)

Tim.

In real day to day driving, the M235i would be faster than a M3 on a track maybe not

If i had a M235i i would fit an LSD to it :) which would make it a better car that the M3 IMO

They are great cars, and when i get a house eventually this is what ill be looking to buy. :D

Its nice that the LSD is a dealer fit option and that would be what I would do as well and get one fitted to the M235i and then I think it would be a very complete motor, the M2 should be a great bit of kit too

No matter which car we would pick, ask your "granny " which is the fast car and I bet she would point at the zed!

That's a good point and with the Zed it was built as a sports car from day one and you cant buy one as a diesel whereas the 2 series and 3 series faster models are still based on boring run of the mill cars so you make a very valid point

Its a bit like polishing a turd in some ways for the M235i/M3 but the zed was built to be sporty from day one and that counts for a lot.

The girls seem to like them too - I've had "sporty" cars in the past but the 35iS is the first car that female friends / neighbours speak to me about

Can of worms well and truly opened....
Trust me to stick my foot in it!! what I should have said was the E89 was meant to be built as a sports car from the start but BMW decided to make it a boulevard cruiser instead!!

E89 v Cayman etc - exploit the full potential of either of them on a regular basis and you'll be looking at jail !

Or meeting Xiaxio on his cliff :)

The e89 is most definitely a sports car, it is a two seat convertible with front engine and rear driven car. The argument is just semantics as to whether it is a good one or not

The M3 on the other is most certainly not, a sports saloon yes
