I’ve got the main components sorted out, waiting for a couple more bits & i can reassemble the engine
Is that all eBay (or the like), or are there sellers of used engine parts?
Presuming the parts are not cheap, as they must be rare now?

H2 spares are available on eBay but they’re very rare & you pay a premium for them - i managed to source replacement crankcases, a crankshaft plus another cylinder from the owners club forum. (Ps, it’s a 750!)
I’ve also bought one of these things

I’ve had a bit of a mishap with the H2
Oh yeah, so you have! Is that what is commonly known as "throwing a rod"?

Presume the piston stuck in the bore? :?

Also known as sticking a leg out of bed Pondy.....

Good work Mr Bear, don't forget to add some oil this time...... :poke:

(That's called pulling your leg Pondy.... :sly2: )

Want that pooch too.....want her lots.....!

So what caused the failure in the first place? Used to race against these, when they were new, and those engines weren't noted for being fragile. Miss a gear or change down at too high revs? Much more likely to get pitched on your head by the 'wonderful' handling....best described as being like a rusty farm gate with a hinge in the middle, than destroy an engine. :) Glad you could find the parts as they are getting increasingly rare now.

I was giving it full stick but below the redline so not abused, plenty of oil on the internal components so it wasn’t an oil pump issue.
It had only covered 2k miles since a reconditioned crank was fitted, I’m suspecting a faulty conrod let go

This is a fascinating thread, Rob (although I think I will give the overpriced KHs a miss now).
I admire greatly your mechanical prowess and the obvious attitude of 'shite happens get on and fix it'. In your situation, guessing how much that bike set you back to buy, I would be livid and depressed in equal measure. :)

Getting hacked off would just raise tension further, I’m trying to be philosophical about it.
I obviously wish this hadn’t happened but i do get some satisfaction from fixing it & fortunate to do it myself, it’s therapeutic
I drove almost a thousand miles in my z4 over the last week picking up bits & pieces around the country, nearly got 500 miles to a tank when i went to Manchester :driving:

That sounds like a fairly stress-free approach Rob, and as you say you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you did the rebuild yourself.

470 miles on a tank is mighty impressive too! My 3.0Si could almost manage 400 on Motorway cruising, but the less said about my MC on the economy front the better.
