2) What is good enough to make you fork out for an upgrade over the M?
I find it speaks volumes about the BMW that an awful lot of money has to be spent to get something consideration-worthy that is better.

Yeah, that's what I see as a sensible view on it....I think only a Boxster/Cayman S warrants comparison in the same price bracket...but to me the rarity of the M makes it much more appealing (even if it isn't the better car).
