Where is my z4m coupe built

Well having checked the famous 11th No didgit on the Vin (L) it does seem the car was built in splaterberg or what ever its name is. But fancy that the US does now in real life make a car that handles :driving: :driving: :driving:

And she has brains to probably go with her good looks as she chose to drive a 3.0si Coupe! :P :poke:

Actually that pulls up a good point. Is there any way on this forum that we can have a simbol to denote the sex of the person next to the user name? I have seen it on other forums using ths software.

Looking under the bonnet today an noticed a sticker saying car built Germany . I was under the impression all z4s were built in USA? did they change prodution to Germany for the M?

Your car (as mine) was built in the South Carolina plant. Don't worry as the "Quality Control" is monitored by the Germans. In 2004 I bought a VW Golf R32 & discovered that it had (with ALL R32's) been produced in Slovenia. Absolutely nothing wrong with that - except I take exception to the fact that my car was bolted together by "Red Necks"!.

I am happy that the major components (engine, gearbox, diff ) were constructed in Germany. The bodyshell & paintwork are something else however. Everything creaks & rattles. Not what you would expect of a £45,000 car.

Love the car's dynamics but think that the build quality is crap. USA crap again!

I hope you put your flame suit on. I have to disagree with you on the build quality. I've had two X5s and a Z4MC and a 2005 330xi and I see no apparent difference in the build quality. We make a lot of jokes about the rednecks in the South but if you had seen the Z4 documentary on the "ultimate factory" show on the NatGeo channel you would have seen that it's mostly automated and human involvement is reduced to a minimum.

Cheers.

Why? Shouldn't matter what gender you are, just whether you know what the heck you're talking about. BTW, I DO know someone who works in that plant and used to assemble the Zs......

Oh, and I CHOSE the 3.0Si as she's a daily driver and more practical in upkeep than the M version.

I wonder why bmw put z4 coupe made in Germany on the car information sticker when as it seems it is built in the US. I thought the Germans had quite strict laws about accurate detail information or to put it anotherway why did they not put made in USA on the info plate. Are they ashamed?

I don't think you should get that melodramatic. I think there is a very reasonable explanation for this situation and in retrospect it will look silly. It could be something as benign as a translation problem or a semantic problem. One thing is sure all Z4s were assembled in South Carolina. It may be interesting to contact BMW NA to get a definitive explanation to this. :)

Like every Z3 & Z4 ever built, your car was built in South Carolina USA by incompentent Americans, employed at extortionate employment wages.

That has now finished. BMW Germany has realised that they  cocked-up. So many hundreds of staff will now be laid off. Production will now be transferred to Eastern European Plants that both VW & BMW/Porsche kept open in Bosnia (Sarajevo) during the 1993-1995 war. I know, because I looked after the VW Sarajevo plant.

The Germans are not stupid. They know that they can pay ridiculous amounts of wages. They actually paid absoslutely nothing to the Jews & slaughtered them in 1939+

The Germans will be alright - the British, under Gordon Brown (the Scottish) will be in the poo.

This is incoherent drivel. :? Are you actually proud of what the Nazis did to the Jews during WW II? :o This smacks of anti-semitism. Are you related in any way to enfield? Moderators, I suggest a severe reprimand here.

:spy:

I am watching :D

BTW, Dragonsbreath is not Enfield,,,,unless he has moved to the UK and using a DSL line

What a silly response.

Also - why are you so bothered where the car was built?

I personally do not think the build quality is what it should be. However, it wouldn't stop me buying one, as I bought it for the looks, performance, and enjoyment factor.

I'm curious on why folks believe the build quality would be any better made in a German BMW plant? The assembly folks I've met at HC in the tech tent are passionate about their work and product, the engineering, equipment and assembly processes are German?

Mine is of impeccable reliability and built quality (except for the orange peel paint, which by the way is not any better on the German built Beemers I've seen.)

The paint is because of EPA regulation in the US. My (German) 330 ZHP had great paint. Even this car is not bad, just the aluminum hood (bonnet) is really bad.

X2

BTW, the paint on German built Mercs I've seen has just as much orange peel as German and US Built BMWs  I hate to admit it, but the rice burners seem to have some of the best paint quality out there.

The wages paid in Germany are FAR higher than what's paid at Spartanburg, without a doubt. Completely ludicrous comment, all the way around.

I'm proud of my SC-built Z4M Coupe. You know what they say in the GSP area... "Bubba Makes Wheels"!!

Made in Germany on mine too...

Not fairing too badly. Just greased the bonnet latches and suspension tops today to keep any corrosion at bay...

'fraid not fellah. - Every Z3/Z4 (including ///M models) were built at the Spartenburg facility in Carolina since 2003. Great cars but the build quality has been consistently poor. I've had 2 x Z3's & 2 x Z4's since 1997. In general they have been good cars, but in specific terms the interiors have been assembled on crack cocaine. Screws missing on interior trim & nothing but rattles & sqeaks.

If BMW sell £39,000 335's in the UK to that standard in 2009 they deserve to go bust.

My late 2006 Z4M Roadster is a great drivers car, but I have never had a BMW that has such a sqeaking & rattling problem since my first 1996 LHD Z3 1.8. If BMW can't get the quality control right then they thoroughly deserve to lose sales to our <DELETED>.

[Edit : Sp3ctre]- I have edited this post. Further profanity like that will result in a ban.

Fraid so, "Made in Germany on mine too" on vin plate as I said....

Don't really care where it's made as it's an excellent car :D . All cars rattle and squeak now, every Porsche and BMW I've had. It's the crappy plastics used for enviro-mentalist reasons.

Thank You Sp3ctre. You can ban me this instant. You are probably the sort of person who expects & wishes for your "Gung Ho" US Marines to be supported by the likes of me & my son in the US Crusade's on "The War on Terror" - which seems to have gone horribly wrong.

Back on topic, BMW have made a dire mistake, as have the VAG group by farming out prduction to 3rd world countries such as the USA, Brazil, Slovakia etc. to cut costs. The factory workers in these countries (especially the USA) don't like to be told what to do.

Obama has a hell of a problem if the US Unions continue to be obstructive. But, HEY, who cares in the Western World. - Our Muslim & Hindu "friends" have been trying to do this for decades.... :headbang: Bye & see you all in the next life (with 24 Virgins each) :D
