I put 2-3 years, but it depends if I carry on having niggly issue after issue as I have so far since I bought it in May.

I have noted voted .... only cuz I have not got it back, It went to the dealer and they hit it ..... Not feeling the love to have a damaged repaired car back at the mo
Will wait to see what it looks like when it comes back and If I can see the difference in the paint job it will be gone !!!

If you can see the difference in the paint job then they haven't done it properly. Both mine and my Dad's Zed's have been resprayed due to keying damage and they're both absolutely perfect, totally perfect colour match and the finish is better than new.
If it ain't perfect make them do it again! Good luck with it!

Still not fed up with mine,after nrly 3y and a half yrs/i usually only keep cars for 2-3 yrs max,but i still look back at the z when i park it/walk away from it,plus looking to fit an ess s'charger next yr(all going well).
This car is a keeper for me(only be sold if i have to/due to lack of cash. other than that,its mine,indefinately)

Nope, the longer I wait - the fewer M cars there will be around that have not been ragged, tracked or parked outside all the time so mine will be worth even more

For me the problem (if thats what it is) is that the cars value has dropped to such a point that upgrading or replacing it would involve a lot of cash. That cash, i would always be thinking could be put to much better use than going marginally quicker to 60.

The other point about the cars value being so low now is that it does what it does so well, and feels like a bargain to boot. Its still perceived as a 'pricey' car as we've seen in the other thread, and now that all my lights are clear etc it could be a 2009 for all the average punter knows.
I can see myself buying a sensible wagon and adapting the z4 to become more track orientated as its value drops even further.

Dreamer, I get the impression that you think a bit like me... House comes before car, etc. If and WHEN you get to a point were you've done enough sensible "investment" stuff you would then step up in the car market no? You can't alway keep thinking that you could spend the cash on some sort of investment right?

I'd like to think I'll keep my forever as I do love driving it about but I'm probably minded to getting a marginally more sensible everyday car (s4 avant or similar, nothing too dull) and a hardcore track/ridiculous vehicle like a caterham. Some sort of trade in perhaps in a couple of years, subject to no big surprises in (a) finances and (b) family set up!

That is what I usually do, but, I might change for the 'M' in 2 years (if and when) or a car with the engine in the rear after 5 years
In a world where I can't tell the difference between a BMW, Lexus, Audi, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc...until I'm standing next to it, I cherish the fact that the Z4 has such unique styling. There is simply no mistaking it from a distance. It's one of those shapes that will always be distinguishable...same as a corvette stingray in my mind. So mine will stay until it dies most likely. Considering it will go for 150k+ miles and I only have 50k on it now, it'll be a while. That's why I'm adding the supercharger next month!

My story is that I bought my 2003 Z4 2.5i brand new in Feb 03. Drove it till June 1 of this year. Some BOZO came around a corner and lost control and totalled my car. I had 236, 000 miles on it and really wanted to keep it forever. Of course, I was starting to have some issues with it which was taking its toll on my credit cards.
So, it was a blessing in disguise as it turned out that it got totalled on that day. Got twice what I thought I would get from the insurance and turned around and bought a 2007 Z4 3.0i FULLY loaded, my 2003 just had premium and convience package on it.
So now, I am wanting to keep this car forever, but as I have recently learned, time will tell for sure. Bought this on June 15 with 17k and now have 30k...

Peddy, you say step up. I guess you mean faster/more power and prestige etc. Which basically/logically/probably leads you to a 911 really. Now dont get me wrong i would love a hike in performance and handling but....
A. Its just not possible to exploit that kind of power living round london (and increasingly the rest of the country)
B. To fully rag a car you need a track, and power isnt really the paramount issue there - eg a caterham.
C. The more you spend on a car the more you lose
D. Im only 32 and trying to move house at the mo
The other thing is i have owned more powerful cars in the past and it doesnt directly relate to how much you like the car. The Z4 is a great all rounder, it looks great, goes well enough and keeping up with the joneses or quoting BHP figures in the pub doesnt bother me any more.
After you have done a few track days you realise there is wafting/posing and belting down dual carriageways but thats about all there is to driving a nice car on UK roads - Unless of course you live near the Scottish highlands or something.
Then I come to the conclusion that theres nothing wrong with my car and the weakest link is my driving. I would much rather spend money on driver training and track time. The last trip out to Bedford me and Matty were kicking the back ends out round corners and having a proper good laugh and in no way were we exploiting the cars full potential.
I think the ONLY reason to buy a Porsche/lambo or any other exotica is because your either a f#cking good driver and need that kind of performance, or just for the experience of looking at it and knowing its yours and the wide eyed expression on your aunites face as you pull up to a family occasion.
The fact is i cant afford to buy a car just for the experience of it, and my driving isnt good enough to DEMAND that level of performance. Maybe one day it will be, but SADLY i cant quite imagine that in this economy and at my age where i am not settled on my laurels like a retiree with a mortgage paid of and kids all through higher education that i will be able to justify 30k+ on a car.
Reading that back is depressing I know im quite a carefull thinker but i try to live for today as much as plan for the future really. If i was in my 50's and had all the financial bases covered i would probably upgrade and spank a load of cash on something fast and italian . I literally dream of Gallardos all day long :roll:
