Wheeler Dealers / Boxster

Watching at 10 on plus channel but surely not! That cheap? Really? Smells fishy to me.........

Surprised they haven't done z3 z4 mx5 or R8 engine conversion lotus even
I've often wondered how the decide what car to focus on. The show always starts out with Mike on the prowl for a particular model because it's a brilliant example of blah blah whatever. I suspect it's more like staffers are always shopping for any interesting cheap car. The actual purchase is made by staff without cameras, then the process is re-enacted with Mike for effect. Surely the presence of cameras or Mike Brewer's face would poorly skew any sales price.

I've no idea really, I just don't think it's that easy. I thoroughly enjoy watching the show, but a few thing don't ring true. It always bugged me that Edd apparently works for free as far as the profit tally at the end of the show goes. What ever profit they claim to make rarely would pay for Edd's time, so who ever ends up with these cars is getting a good value considering what really went into the car.

Still, it's easy to look beyond such things and enjoy the show.

Agree totally - Eds time is never added - wish they would at least state how many hours work has been done

This appears to be correct. I was having a look at the Boxa forum where the Boxter in the show came from. The chap who owned the Boxter put up a post asking for advice on what to do with his car (sell on or break). He was given a link to a wanted post placed on the forum by a researcher on the show. The chap replied to this post and the deal was done.

The text of the wanted post is below.

Wanted,

I am a Researcher working on a popular Car Restoration Programme on the Discovery Channel,

As part of the show we are currently looking for a Porsche Boxster (pre 2004) and a Porsche 993. In both cases we are looking for cars which are in need of some work, ie having engine problems, body work rust or mechanical issues etc. This is because we intend to restore these cars on screen as part of the new Series.

We are looking to spend less than £3,000 on the Boxster and less than £15,000 on the 993.

If any one knows of/has one of these cars which they are looking to sell could you contact me ….

So much for Mike searching the forums!

Yep saw the same on a Triumph Stag forum before they one a while ago, then by chance I saw a pristine Stag advertised and was actually interested as it seemed cheap. I noticed it was photographed on the stainless turntable they used to use and once I saw the show I was glad I didn't buy it, as it was a gloss over job ignoring some obvious flaws if you know these cars

Just watched this -that bloke must be gutted seeing as they sorted the gearbox problem wirth a £200 oil and filter change-just wondering why there was no advice to try this on the forum he was on??

I have noticed on previous shows they have put new tyres on and not disclosed it on the costs when they are working out profit. Unfortunately tv shows are never really 'real'. Still enjoy the show though

True but I like how they show the work being done. I miss 'The Garage' with Jock!

Fear not, it is coming back for a new series. i think it might be on Quest.

I watch the show when I can, as I do a bit of car repairs myself.

I drives me nuts though when I see them reassemble parts without cleaning them, or reusing bolts and screws with out cleaning the threads etc

And the cost of some of the machinery like the disc skimmer used last on the Porsche rebuild ... Who has one of those in the corner of the garage, just in case lol

But I'm just bitter as I took my hardtop off last week and my roof motor managed to raise just once before giving up.....
Maybe suggesting a Z4 may not be such a bad idea..... :D
