Wheel corrosion on AUC car - warranty?

Anyone have any experience of claiming on the AUC warranty for corroded wheels?

Or is it considered fair wear and tear?

A few years ago Lexus replaced/refurbed all 4 wheels on a car I bought on their approved used scheme

If it's under three years old it's covered, after that only goodwill will cover it, it's possible as I had all four 108's replaced at 3.5 years under goodwill.

On my previous BM a bad wheel refurb meant the wheel started to corrode so was done under an extended warranty. The car was 4 1/2 y/o

When I bought my Z4M I wasnt happy with the pitting on the alloys so they refurbed all of them the car was 4 y/o too.

when I bought mine, there was a tiny bit of corrosion on the wheel, which the dealer said is not covered. contacted bmw customer services, they talked to the dealer and they got them done under goodwill :)

As long as there's no visible damage to your wheels it can't hurt to ask! Mine had been used as the parking sensors by the previous owner :(

Ye I agree its more good will than warranty, any number of things can make wheels corrode. It was more good will on my part! Just make sure they do the inside! BMW didnt do any of mine on the inside which I thought was pretty poor why do a half arsed job they will just corrode from the inside... But what they did was a good job and im sure as long as I look after them they will be fine.

Yup
My 108s were replaced with new at 3+ years too, there was no user induced damage though which is probably fairly important
They can only say no

I've just sent BMW customer services a message about getting my 108's fixed under AUC warranty. Car is an 2007 but still has AUC warranty until the end of April.

How long do they usually take to get back to you?

What do you guys think my chances are?

As you can see mine are pretty bad.

Remember they haven't been pressure-washed as this would lift the lacquer if applied a bit 'enthusiastically', as I was informed at the dealers

Thats the dealer providing you with the excuse they will use if you try to claim - clever phsychology..... :P

Also remember that you've never even heard of WonderWheels, as it contains a fair few harsh acids (hydrochloric & phosphoric to name 2) which can strip the lacquer if left on too long.

I sent two emails recently to bmw.uk and had no reply. Finally rung them even then they were'nt very helpful. Good luck

They must be monitoring this thread as not 10mins after I asked how long it usually takes I got a reply.

They said I need to take it in for a BMW approved dealership to take a look at it. They also said if it was caused by external influences I would be charged a "diagnostic charge".

Obviously this is to put me off trying to claim but I feel I have a valid claim so I'm going to progress this any way.

How can I tell or they tell if it's caused by an external influence? I could see if it only happens in one place and the wheel has been kerbed in that place. My corrosion is all over but I do have a very small amount of dings.

It's clear it's wheel corrosion but how can I prove this?

What do you guys think from the photo? I can take some more if needed.
