What's your 2016 plans for the M...?

He fell in love with a yelloŵ Cayman in the Porsche museum in the summer. A GT4 would end him
It can't be more than a couple of years before he's driving, so maybe it's time to chop your ///M for a yellow beetle

I've just been driving a 991.2 C2S PDK. I was thinking about changing, but actually still prefer the Zed.

So it'll stay for a while. Getting itchy feet though!

Interesting, so what exactly do you prefer in the Z...? I'd have thought the 991.2 C2S would trounce the Z in almost every conceivable benchmark?! *Also are the turbos noticeable (do the detract) in this new gen 911...?

Sure. it's a great car, better in pretty much every conceivable benchmark than the zed, don't get me wrong.

But, the 991 and even more so with the new 3ltr turbo versions, for me, are much more GT orientated. Bigger, less involving and less agile than 997s and earlier, and also the zed. More day to day usable, certainly.

Whilst the EPAS is an improvement, it still has close to zero feel in comparison. It is accurate and well-weighted, but compared to the wonderful steering of 911s in the past, disappointing. Mine had the sports exhaust fitted which sounded good. Certainly not as pure or evocative as the S54 or earlier 911 engines though.

Also the PDK is still frustrating for me. You need a GT3 to get a proper manual mode, as it'll still kickdown way to easily when you use the paddles. Using the paddles in any of the auto modes is pointless, it'll take control pretty quickly, even when your gear selection is perfectly viable. Maybe a manual would be better, but it's not recommended for resale and the 7 speed in the 991 I drove wasn't great.

The 420ps turbo motor has been engineered to feel like an NA unit. Fine in principle and it's enjoyable to rev out to the 7.5k limiter. But they have also removed a lot of low-down punch. Unlike an M4, you have wonderful traction in any 911 which could be exploited further. I guess they have to leave room for the Turbo / GTS versions. The initial response is definitely softer too.

It really depends on your expectations I guess. I also drive a 2013 C63 which I massively prefer as a GT. Truly one of the all time great engines and every drive is memorable. As a sports car, I'll take the involvement and challenge of a Z4 and leave all the electronic gimmickry and toys behind.

A 997 GT3 comes pretty close to perfection, but for me, is totally impractical, even with the front lift kit.

2016 plans for my ///M in order of priority:

Annual DIY oil change (although only managed 2500 miles last year since oil change :( )
Purchase and fit Bilstein B6 shocks
New Rouge rear top mounts to match above
Alignment
New front bumper and bonnet respray
Vibra engine mounts
Refurbish wheels in shadow chrome! (or save up for Apex rims)

In January I will have owned the car for 7 years and as I now commute to Brighton (70 miles each way) 2/3 days a week then it is time for the miles to munched by my newly purchased MINI and for the M to be taken out of daily service and treated to some serious TLC.

Luckily I am still just under 50k miles so it will still be worth investing in I hope. Plans...

Get a few dings/scrapes repaired, front end respray? Also learn how to use the new DA polisher
Refurb/replace wheels and treat to some Michelin PSS or similar
Go on lots of meets and take in a track day other than Cadwell Park
A blue Eventuri if I back a few winners
New discs and pads alround (still on originals)
Move to somewhere that has water & electricity closer!

Are these two related - perhaps first on your list should be to learn use the brakes to stop the car :P :D

Ha! No unfortunately they have been caused by people who don't appreciate other people's pride and joy

I have the same problem with mine and tenfold with my S2000 DD from hospital car parks - it'll practically need respraying before I can sell it.

Fit newly painted bumpers
Lowering (+ Billies?)
M-Track programming
Fit under-floor gel (small) battery, 3.0Si luggage panels
Fit new steering wheel
Fit ZHP knob
Fit new centre console alu panel
New exhaust (mufflers/pipes)

Depending how the next few months go...

Fit the aero skirts I've had sat in the house for the last couple of months...
Fit the RTAB limiters I have, along with new oem bushes. Most likely get an interim service done at the same time.
Replace the 3rd brake light (it's looking grubby), probably the side indicators too.
Fit new wheel centre caps
Refurb the CSLs (if I'm feeling flush)
Get a full polish/detail (if I'm feeling really flush)
Maybe! change the headlights and rear lights... for driving on the wrong side of the road....!

I'm planning to swap to Michelin PSS' as Yokohama AD08s getting hard to find out here. Finally buy Vibratech engine mounts. RTAB limiter kit and some light track time. Haven't tracked it in AGES

New brake discs and pads all round, wheel refurb and PSS tyres...

Then a nice trip to Europe in the summer would be nice :)
