Whats the top catch for? the bottom 1 opens the cover to the cd auto changer and sat nav but what does the top catch do?

It was the roof release for the non-electric roof version - I think it still allows the electric roof to be closed manually if you pull the cord that goes through to the boot first

Ah, the age old question. I've had it off and it appears it does nothing from what I remember  I think it's the manual roof release, possibly in countries which don't have standard electric roofs?

I think that is a leftover cover from a manually operated roof mechanism (I assume we are talking about your roadster?)

mine is an 08 plate and has one - in my first Zed I was pushing it for ages expecting to release another storage space

Mines an 07 and it has it, even though it doesn't have the catch at all. I guess it was cheaper just to leave it there... Though it's just another thing that can rattle eventually

do all roadster have them or just early 1's?

Some US cars have manual roofs from memory. Hotter climates don't need the insulation so having a lighter roof means it can be manual!

All UK cars have electric though.

Some other markets had a single skinned manual roof. All cars have the release catch tho as it It's the manual release for the roof should the motor fail- you press this and pull the release cord in the boot. There is a Allen key tool to secure roof in the toolkit. Hopefully you will never need it!

It releases the lock down "claws" to allow for manual closing of soft top in conjunction with the boden cable. No need to pull the cord.

Its there in case of power failure.
