In the boot on the left hand side. The unit on the right with part number is bluetooth, but what's the unmarked one next to it?

I know. It's where all the 'magic' happens. If you unplug the connectors the car will turn into an MX5 :D
Sorry no idea TBH (don't even know where it is) :o

It’s an early USB box..interfaces to the Bluetooth box next to it…all depends what options the car has

Ooh, that's worth remembering. I think the MX5 ND RF is quite possibly the prettiest car in the world right now.

Ah, thanks, I did wonder that. Found something along those lines on realoem. I've actually just replaced my armrest USB post as it had been destroyed at some point.

It could be the engine sound synthesiser :?
Rob
The ASD is about the size of a packet of cigarettes
Really? Do they all have that? I remember reading up before ownership, but couldn't find anything conclusive.
If it does have one, where is it and can I remove it?

I think you have a 35i?
Pretty sure they are only fittted on 4 pot cars to give the engine a decent sound, plays back through the internal speakers I think.

McButler is correct only fitted to N20 powered cars and if you had one you can’t remove it as it then disables all audio…

You can buy a bypass adapter if you are upgrading your audio to retain its key power control function but route audio direct to the amps

Ah, that's okay then. No need to worry.

Yes it's the MULF(1), was replaced later in production by the MULF2 that looked identical but they then did away with the TCU (Bluetooth module next to it) as the Bluetooth side was combined into the MULF. Later it was replaced by the Combox, which had the MEDIA side built in as well.
MULF2 or a Combox can be retrofitted in place of them if you so desired

Thanks, Dave. Good to know. Although I think any benefits of upgrading might be obselete after this weekend when I fit my HifiMax android screen.

Already reviewed, and is the reason why I decided I could do it myself. So thanks in advance for the tutorial, I'll let you know how it goes.

Slight deviation in that my car already has iDrive. I'm going to use a splitter cable to tee off the factory GPS antenna rather than fit a second one. That leaves the fake centre speaker cover free for me to fit the unit's 4G antenna instead.
