Tricky topic really, a set of boots is a lot of cash to throw at someone else’s opinion, one man’s rubbish etc.... It’s why I wouldn’t fit anything else than Michelin’s, I’ve had lots of sets and never once had any complaint, they suit me to a T. Best to try something before you commit but much much easier said than done admittedly.

What an odd paragraph that is.
Personally not been to the tyre shop where they will let you test tyres for an extended period of time to allow you to make your own opinion, gratis.
The only way to decide on tyres is the spec and read some reviews, very like what Is in this thread.
Michelin’s are generally very good but a blanket statement isn’t exactly helpful.
You also sound like the person who goes with the same car insurance company every year, because they are good.

What’s odd about it..? The only thing odd is assuming I meant trying tyres from a tyre shop. I see I’ll have to explain it, I meant trying someone’s car that has tyres fitted already, a friends or colleagues that might have them, I also said it’s easier said than done. I’ve had probably all makes it tyre over the years and find Michelin’s the best, that’s all.

You sound like the type of person that puts two and two together and comes up with 5, maybe have a think about a post before jumping in and writing rubbish without thinking.

Kuhmos for me, had them on both Z's I've had now and don't find them a noisy tyre at all. Good grip too and not excessive wear either.

Kumho when i tried them initially surprised me as they do perform way above their pricepoint but then i tried a set that were way down on tread & the penny dropped , new they do the job extremely well but drop below 4mm & add a little outer edge wear & they soon feel skittish whereas tyres from the big names like Michelin & Conti seem to perform virtually to the point they hit the bin .

I've not done enough miles to get down to below say 4mm yet in either car so will look out for any difference when these do. but then again they do wear slowly and don't cost the earth so you could swap them out when they get to that depth

Indeed you can , i'm not knocking them , the other point to mention is the prices of the "non" big name brands like Kumho , Uniroyal , Vredestein etc have steadily crept up the last 18 months /2 yrs which actually makes the choice even more difficult come change time .
As ive already stated above in this thread , the Dunlop SportMaxx RT2 right now look like the best all round tyre for the ££s , no doubts that will change .

I think my main issue with what you put is that you just say Michelin!
As I’m sure you are aware that’s a bit of a rubbish blanket statement.

Hey Andy, tbh with lockdown and winter I've not done a huge amount of miles on the Dunlops but initial impressions are they are undoubtedly quieter than the Michelin ps4s and Goodyear F1 Assy 5s that preceded them despite now running on bigger wheel/tyre combo.

Comfort wise they are fantastic again despite moving to 19s there is no decline in ride comfort which I was expecting to some extent with the bigger wheels so a massive plus there.

Grip wise there has been no moments where they have felt anything less than perfectly planted despite the cold/damp conditions, even flooring it in 2nd off a roundabout on cold tyres they were completely unfazed they've been absolutely rock solid so far.

Not really had any fine day hoons but from initial impressions I'm expecting them to cope well enough with anything I can throw at them.

I'd recommend them, definitely up there with the best of them

Keep updating please Steve...I’m binning the F1’s in March, very interested in your thoughts the more miles you get on the Dunnies.

Cant remember if I uploaded pics of the new wheels but here they are shod with the new Dunlops, cant wait for temps to warm up so I can paint the hubs and calipers to finish the job off properly
