Whats the point of a Roadster?

It's the lack of sunshine that gets us Brits into drop tops. We appreciate a warm sunny day with the roof down more than our European cousins as it's sunny all the time there in summer and they just get fed up with it.

I'm looking forward to the first warm April weather, twisty B road in Wales or the Dales, roof down, the smell of the countryside in Spring,the sound of that straight six engine,

The very best driving experience there is :thumbsup:
 
this thread is getting long in the tooth, how about we mix it up a little...

Whats the point of the Coupe? I mean once your inside it may aswell be a roadster. Unless you have a series of mirrors attached to the body work so you can view the roof at all times :roll:

Not sure really. My wife used to have an MX-5. Great car. :thumbsup:

Raining, snow etc = roof up and air con on. May as well have a coupe and no roof bits to fix or leaks.

Sun out = roof down and sunburn (we sat in the sun on the A1 in a traffic jam for about 3 hours absolutely baking).
Yes roadsters have electric roofs but it seems daft putting them up coz the sun is too hot. :!:

Unless you have the M-Parasole option......... :poke:
 
Coupe ... blech. Just more paint to polish, wash, and wax.

Just kidding.

I'm seriously impressed with the Z4 ragtop though. When it's up it's dry, warm in winter, cool in summer, and quiet. Hardly even notice it's a soft top. The glass rear window really helps too ... defrostable even. Nice piece of engineering. And of course when it's down ... well, it's down!
 
Sorry but your all driving the wrong the Zed, E89 is the future, best of both worlds, doesn't look like a hunch back in coupe form and no soft top to attract cat hairs :poke: :D

Hmmm i dont understand your point?
Last year was not the best year for weather but i still had the roof down LOAD's! Maybe because mines not a weekend car but the ROOF DOWN OPTION got used LOADS.
Even this year i have had the roof down a few times already.
Currently it is only the 12th of March and we should still expect Snow, its not uncommon to be cold or snow through out March.

I also dont understand people that buy a modern Roadster, then garage it over winter like its made from cardboard that cant get wet or cold? That's just plain ODD

Why is that ODD? I have 2 Zeds, one for winter use (Z3, which are dirt cheap to buy now) and one for summer use (Z4). Common sense to me said not to pay BMW 2K for a set of winter wheels with runflats but go for a cheaper set of wheels for the Z3 with appropriate winter tyres. I would simply never drive any car with summer runflats in winter conditions, they're borderline safe. :wink: If someone gave me a set winter runflats for the Z4 it would be out tomorrow, any offers?

Made me smile seeing all those poor folk stuck in their cars and trucks overnight down south in an inch or two of snow. Winter tyres and they'd more than likely been on their way :roll:

I think you need to rephrase the above and add 'E89 3.5'

just had the roof back today on a blast up to taynuilt :driving: , however, a few weeks back one frosty night it was my wifes suggestion after a party to drive home with the roof back!!! So she could star gaze!! :thumbsup:

Could be a new episode of stargazing on the hoof, with oot a roof.
