Whats my car worth then???

Selling or advertised, there's M's for sale for only slughtly more these days so why would someone pay more for a modified 3.0?

14.5k now that's daft.

The same reasons most people go for the Sport over the M.

Save £xxx on insurance, save £200/year on tax, save £xxx per year on maintenance / servicing, save £xxx per year on fuel, save £xxx on tyres, save £xxx on depreciation (M's seem to fall significantly faster and harder).

Plus as there are so few in the UK its almost as exclusive, if you can find a well spec'd one (with over £5k of options) its equally well equipped.

Lastly you can have the auto which is what I've gone for.

Dont get me wrong, the M has its own right in its on market place but for a lot of people its not for them.. However these cheap M's are less likely to be in "good condition" and more likely to be in "poor condition"

As mentioned before, its all about what a buyer wants to pay and how desperate a seller is to sell.

I'd take the cheaper insurance off that list by the time you've advised the insurance company of 2 additional tail pipes I can imagine the premium will have risen significantly. Yes there are specialist companies that are more reasonable but its still a big factor.

These cars will follow a similar depreciation curve to the M, can't see a time where someone will pay more for one to save on running costs though. Saying that stranger things have happened.

I've bought and sold a bit over the years, pricing TO SELL a modified high performance car privately is tricky. I tend to look for the closest example for sale within a reasonable travelling distance for that class of car, and pitch the price a little under that. You will get the calls first and you can rightly point to it being the cheapest comparable car available. I've sold quickly every time using this method and rarely take a drop on the asking price.

Oh and despite others knocking it Iv'e always sold quickly on AutoTrader with this method, dare I say it but specialist forum and Pistonheads readers tend to be harder on prices and a tougher sale (more knowledgeable? ).

Thing is you're looking to sell up because your seeing lots of bargains in the classfieds the problem with your logic here is that your 3.0si will also be worth considerably less. Realistically you're looking at 9 or 10k.

For the record I think your car looks a lot better with the Z4m wheels than the other ones.

9 to 10k?! Don't be daft. John - I'd seriously give you 10k in cash and I'm not even looking at the moment. When someone can say that, you know it's much too cheap.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks as if you would only offer 10k for this car which proves daz05's point

On insurance, my ///M is 25% cheaper to insure than my old 2.5si with the same company.

Interesting, this has triggered quite a debate.

JDM. I think your car looks class. Value/price/worth is difficult to call. Anything less than 15k seems far too cheap if you put it in terms of how much car/exclusive/fast/head turning it is. As applies to all z4s. 15k isn't very much money for a car this good.

BUT, the Market seems to be saying otherwise. Lots of very nice z4s selling for a lot less. And unbelievable we are seeing some good Ms sell for criminally low money at the moment.

Putting this into context then I agree with tomscott. You'd be crazy to sell. Too many desperate sellers shifting these cars in this difficult economic climate, undercutting eachother on autotrader etc, has overdeflated their value and some lucky buyers are getting access to great cars too cheaply.

With this in mind I think for the next year or so I would only consider selling if I had too. Although yes I agree the car you change to will also be cheaper, but if you have a specific one in mind then it puts you into the position of "desperate seller" constantly reducing and ultimately taking less for your car so you can get your perceived bargain purchase.

15k? 9k? Your all so wrong.... Where are you getting these numbers? All you need to do is some research...

Similar miles and spec from a dealer at 11k...

Put it at 12k, but be prepaired to drop 1k...

5 year old prestige vehicles ARE generally are worth 33% of their initial cost (before taking into consideration condition, mileage, history, etc)

As I mentioned previously the original vehicle cost was £36,685 add £500 for the wheels and that takes you to a 33% value of £12,271

Again as I mentioned its average mileage but in good condition so I would make that the very least I would accept for it.

It is a very niche car even before the mods because of the bi-colour yellow interior which wont help with selling UNLESS the right person comes along at the right time.

Still if you were definitely wanting to sell it then list it at £13,500 and drop it £500 if you have no interest after 6 weeks. But do not take a penny under £12,271 in my opinion.

Why not pop along to a couple of garages and show an interest in ,say a new Z4 or an M car and see what they will give you.

This will only lead to tears. I did that and was shocked at how much the dealer low balls the value of your car :(

The dealer will offer him about £11k max.

maybe against a brand new car..... against anything used and it will be about 8 or 9k

i would value it at 12-13k at a private sale but be prepared to wait as its a very slow market

The car Im buying was traded in at £12,200 (2007 sport coupe auto) in Nov to the dealer - the buyer told me himself and they bought an AUC car with the p/x value plus a few k..

Thats the cap value. Cap value for JDM's car is £11,100

I dislike dealers for always trying it on and offering less than bottom book price for p/x :headbang:

OP may be better of selling private, where a higher sale price is more likely :)

p/x for convenience and guaranteed sale. Look at how long some people on here have been trying to sell their cars for and set that against a p/x deal on the table. Remember cost to change is the important figure while talking to dealers.

Dealers have to make money somewhere.

As Gannet says, the cost to change is so important. JDM is presumably looking at a new 20i on which you can get at least 7k and in some cases 8k deposit contribution, along with 4.9% APR finance.

In normal circumstances a good result might be £4k off the car and interest rates of maybe 7 or 8% so you could be getting an extra £4k off the car plus save yourself around £2k in interest. In that context, selling privately for £11-11.5k is a pretty good deal, and hanging out for another grand or so might cost £5 or 6k at the other end.

Not a bad advert except, 90% of the performance and 50% of the running costs. Lol.

Hope he gets that price will give us all some hope.

I liked the line: "The car really has never wanted for anything."

P.S. Allllll those mods in just 11 months??? I think he is selling cos he ran out of mods to make.
