What was your first "Sporty" car

1974 MG midget RWA in red, was my first car @ 18 and what a fantastic little car it was. I used it to drive the 50 mile round trip to college everyday. Have been hooked on convertibles ever since :)
 
I'm going to be cheeky and say my Fiat Punto Sporting was my first "sporty" car - well, it had "Sport" in the model title LOL, it has lowered suspension, side skirts and handled surprisingly well. Although 85bhp and around 1000kg meant it wasn't lightning quick in a straight line...

So perhaps my first proper "sporty" car was a 2004 Renaultsport Clio 172 - 1080kg, 170bhp, oh yes :driving:. I still think on a bumpy twisty B-road it would lose even a well-driven Z4. The best handling car I've owned so far, although the Z4 is more "fun" and much better all-round.
 
did it have red seatbelts ? ................ if it did it counts surely......... i loved my cinq sporting.

Mine was my iccle plastic rollerskate 4 years ago. Before that, various boring hatchbacks. Plenty of power although not what id call 'sporty.'

My first was a Mk2 Mini 1275 rebored to 1380cc and many many performance mods. Stupid amounts of power for such a small car but guaranteed adrenaline rush.

Unfortunately I don't think it did - loved that car though.

red seatbelts remind me of a mate's Metro GTI though, although a bloke I worked beside had a cinq sporting for a while - we used to blast around in it during the lunch hour, absolute riot of a car.
 
loved every minute of owning mine ....... looked pretty weird with two windsurf boards strapped to the roof ..
 
my first car which could almost count as 'first sporty car' was a citroen AXGT! Jet black with red stripe. only a 1.4 but was rapid as it was light and built from cardboard!
 
I learn to drive in an AXGTI .... for some strange reason the local driving school used this as their teaching car.... slightly leftfield choice.
 
My first sporty car was a Triumph Spitfire in 1982 - similar to one in photo.
We had to get rid of it when my daughter started to learn how to drive.
My other car at the time was a company car which she wasn't allowed to drive,
and it was impossible to get the Spitfire insured for a 17 year old learner.

If I ignore the brand new Nova 1.3SR in 1989 then it would be the car that replaced it...a 1.9 205 GTi. Belter of a car but boy did I lose a fortune on that because it was right at the time that joy riding took off. Insurance premiums and hot hatch values rocketed in perfect harmony in opposite directions :x
 
Thanks for all the input guys, some really interesting cars especially seeing what people owned on both sides of the pond. I wish i did still have a picture of my Manta :(
 
1989 G reg Suziki Swift GTI :thumbsup: ..... Cracking little car went like sh*t off a stick for a 1.3ltr (well felt like it when I was 18 anyway!) Wouldnt of liked to crash it though!!
 
Does a slammed Nova 1.5TD count with the boost turned up to 85bhp @1.1bar, if not would have to be my Mk1 MR2, dont get much sportier then mid engine and rear wheel drive.

Red seatbelts and comfiest seats I've ever had. Also, when someone tried to break into it I delighted in the fact my lock 'clicked' back on mechano style.
