My tuppence worth. I really REALLY like the look of the F-Type but is it a bit GT and maybe not sporty enough? I'll be in a similar position to you come 2019 so I've had the occasional look around (a bit early I know but it is nice to dream). So far I've rounded it down to the Exige S:

A lot of my old VX220 chums seem to be making the move across to the Exige V6 with some really positive feedback. They look stunning in the flesh. My only concern is that it is very similar on the inside to my old VX220 and that was not a comfy car.
The 911 turbo is a proper Porsche and residuals seem to be on the up at the moment. I know Caymens/Boxsters are all very good cars but if I ever tick the Porsche box it has to be a 911.

Well I'm really enjoying reading this and seeing all the different opinions
Clearly the favourite amongst posts is the F type and so that features on my list which now probably looks like this:
Def in the list now
F type 3 litre, ideally in S spec. Jaguar are being stupid and giving away new one's so could get new for <£48k or even PCP it and keep my £'s. Could be persuaded coupe or roadster.
Evora subject to a test drive, but prices polarised between old beaters and facelifts
Vantage V8 soft top (I was a bit quick eliminating it as decent kit is to be had for <£40k) sorry PVR
Stiil considering:
Alfa 4C - need to see but some concerns over a stressed 1.7 and bit hardcore
Audi R8. Need to get in one and see of the age and budget. The £150k one I sat in on Sunday didn't help as even Mrs CJ went a bit weak at the knees

If you can get a new Jaguar, I would certainly do that as the warranty and new car smell is something you can't get out of a bottle :lol:
Plus you can spec it the way you want it, and not having to worry about the usual second hand what-happened-there type worries.

Love the F-Type, will definitely get one in a couple of years, a v6 (the only one in manual) or a v6s, but as a few have said it's not a proper sports car. R8s are more of a sports car, and the early V10s are getting close to 40k now so that'd be my choice.

I'd rather pull my finger nails out than pay good money for a Vette. There's a guy in the village with the latest gen Mustang and it appears to have had the throttle replaced with an on/off switch. Just about sums up the owners...

Every make has its stereotypes and depends if you own one or not if it's good or bad :|
