What puncture repair do you carry?

As I said carry a spacesaver, if you get a big cut 99% of these kits wont work, and if your in the Highlands of Scotland, or up a pass in Europe, no fone signal your fooked,
A space saver is definately the best (and fastest).

What size spacesaver do you have? Is it from an e46 or e60?

Its fron an E46, cost me £65 , an brand new, ebay, lucky it was local so I collected , , complete with scissor jack, which goes under without having to use a brick and a pice of 3x2 as I do wi mi hydraulic :D

Space saver is fine, but try fitting the full size flat wheel in the boot with all that luggage. On an ///M with the battery in the boot it's even worse.

It'll be fully deflated, in a plastic bag on the wife knee, she's been warned, :D :D :D

Most use a small compressor and a couple of can of gunk. You could also but a BMW mobility kit which is basically the same. Can get then on eBay for small money.

Has yours ever been replaced ? Must check the date on mine, as I'm pretty sure at 9 years old the gunk will be past it's prime...

No, still original.

Wonder if it does go off :?

My son had a puncture in his Fiesta and he used the green slime/compressor kit, it worked a treat and when he had new tyres fitted some months later due to wear, the slime washed off the alloys with no problem at all.

I saw a post on the Z4 FB page of a guy who'd tried to use his and it exploded.

There are a couple of pics if you click left/right. Proper mess :o

Wonder if that's what happens when they get old ? It's got me worried...

Checking it and changing it is part of the service item list I think.

It starts to solidify after a certain time, and when you try to pump it in, the container explodes as the solid parts prevent flow, showering the liquid crap in the centre everywhere, as per pics. Seen it happen a few times, one of the design issues with the system as the liquid is pumped in under pressure, rather than simply poured in.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've brought one of those string kits of eBay for £12.

My father-in-law was an agricultural tyre fitter/repairer and he gave me some of those sticky rubber strings and a needle tool a long time ago. You're not meant to use them on road tyres, but I did on my Kia Soul, four times, and it was fine.

I think we have to remember that these repair kits (foam, slime, string) are only a "get you home" kit and that's all - just as the run flat system Bmw fitted - it's all a compromise !
