Out of interest what brake pads do you use and why.??

interested to see who sticks to OEM and who goes aftermarket.

Started with EBC Yellowstuff as that's what I'd been using on my M5.

Then went to Bluestuff NDX as recommended by my marshalling colleague who worked for EBC.

I was purely coincidental that marshals had a 50% discount via this (since retired) colleague.

Still use Bluestuff NDX for normal use, even now that I'm playing double what I was, as they give the best bang for the buck - i.e. about £120 a set, that last over a year (25000 miles).

Have also used Pagid RS14 (lasted 2 months - 3000 miles), and RS19/29 which are much longer lasting (about 6 months - 12000 miles), and the both perform better than Bluestuff NDX, but both of these pads are about £400 a set, which means I'd be spending about 8-24 times the amount I spend on the EBC pads for the same duration.

For out & out track use I'd definitely go for the Pagids, but for my combination of track, hoons & motorway, the Bluestuff NDX are perfect.

Can't comment on the internet stories of crap Greenstuff & Redstuff pads as I don't have any first hand experience of them.

Mine are original OEM. And I mean original. As far as I know PVR never changed them. Almost 9 years old and 49k miles - must be some sort of record :D

I have some Axxis Deluxe Plus he sold me with the car - a US brand, supposed to be very good. I guess I will find out soon...

I have tried a lot of various pads - OEM, EBC Yellowstuff, Bluestuff NDX, Carbonne Lorainne RC6, RC5 & Pagid RS29.

I'm currently using RS29s but I have 2 full sets of NDX pads in the garage. For road driving these are the best pads I have used although they do have a tendency to crumble/crack which isn't ideal.

Yellow stuff, great for the road, blue stuff ndx I thought were not allowed for road use
They don't have R90 certification for most applications. No different to the Pagid RS, and Ferodo DS ranges.

Still seem to work fine from cold - e.g. over 100 miles of motorway without touching them, or first braking area on lap one at the 'Ring in 0 degrees October weather!

Another on RS29's. Exclusively road driven the last 3 years or so as i've not had the chance to track it. They're great on the road. A bit squeaky sometimes and need just a bit of heat to work properly but never had any scary moments when cold to be honest. They're lasting as good as stock but then again i've done VERY little miles on the car the past few years so take that into account. I'd swap them for something less track oriented and cheaper but as they still have lots of life on them i'm not fussed.

If they are not r90 approved could there be an insurance issue, say insurer won't payout if they notice you have these sort of pads?

In general use around England I find europarts pagid work fine but when we go to europe I always switch over to textar epads, double the price but really bite and no fade when there worked hard especially on the mountain passes,

It's always a possibility, but I'm sure they'd also have to prove they contributed to the accident. It's not like they could refuse a theft claim if the pads were non-R90. It would be no different to track-only suspension / brake / exhaust kits that people run.

Mine was insured with 'modified brakes' anyway, and they didn't ask any further, more specific questions.

Performance Friction Z personally. Lack a bit of bite at the top but they stop like a good'un when pressing on. Came well recommend on M3 forums

Evening:)

I use DS2500 pads not exactly cheap
But after the hardcore bedding in and stink of burning haha

They'll rip your face off!
They work from cold with not no fade
Once pumped them a few times when first braking
They are awesome:)

Slightly dusty though if used hard
But calms down after a few miles:)

Have you used these pads on track? I used them in my old ClioSport 182. On the road they were okay but I found them pretty crap on track. They faded very quickly and just didn't offer any confidence inspiring stopping power. I was tempted to try them again on the Z but if they didn't work on the Clio I can't see them being up to the job in a car that weighs about 400-500kgs more.

Hey buddy
Tbh I've not had any issues with them
Once a little bit of heat in they will rip my face off
But no fade that I've noticed

I'd never track any of my cars unless bought for that

So never abused, but have had spirited days out:)

Interesting. I was impressed with these on my old Zed and didn't know they were an option for the M. Very low dust too.

Lots of food for thought here. I'll have to google some prices later.

Thanks guys, awesome forum work as usual

Fitted stainless braided hoses, mintex discs fluid change and the new version EBC redstuff pads all round.
I chose the redstuff to lessen the damage to the alloy wheel laquer, and although while bedding in no difference in brake dust level was noticed, after bedding in these brakes are superb in all respects.i.e.Initial bite, pedal feel, consistency, total lack of fade,,and wheels far cleaner than before.I do not use the car for track days, but I do have easy access to some of our finest roads and drive this car "briskly" I have,in the past cooked, warped and delaminated brakes,so feel qualified to leave my input here, hope this helps

Pagid RS29 front and RS4-2 rear. This is with the AP big brake kit and provides excellent balance; stopping is as good as you would expect.
