IMHO:

Girls cars: Mazda MX-5, BMW Z3, MG thingy

Mans cars: Morgan +8, Aston Martin anything, Porsche 911, BMW Z4

Boys cars: hot hatch, Subaru - anything with exhaust pipe diameter > 2"

:)

I'll say you're wrong with one car there... The MX5. It is one of the last truly brilliant sports cars. That said, I'm not getting back into one, am I? :D

MX5 may be brilliant sport cars, but not for men/boys. I had only seen 1 or 2 female drives in Z4 in my life. :) Men will only drive 2.5 or 3.0 Z4, not 4-cylinder ones. Girls/women should keep themselves in Renault/Peugeot CC, MGF, Z3, TT Convertible (Mk1/2), SLK (Mk1), and Mini Convertible. :D

:x OK i am a ex SLK then onto TT convertible 3.2 driver but now a very happy Z4 M Roadster women (past the girl stage some time ago!!!) driver. :D

We need more M women drivers, show you guys a thing or two.

Z4 M imola red 06 roadster

I really don't care what other's perception of my car is as I bought it for my pleasure, not theirs...I work in the Construction industry and most of my colleagues consider my car a "hairdressers" car. Most of them drive Focus's and Mondeos.

One of my colleagues - who claims to drive pretty briskly - commented yesterday that he would meet me at our next meeting (some 27 miles away) albeit he would get there long before I would in my "little hairdressers car". To be fair, he couldn't tell the difference between a bog standard Z3 1.8 and my Z4 ///M; he just isn't a car man really. I pointed out that I actually generally drive quite sedately which he took to be an excuse and sniggered knowingly. Needless to say, I had already had a briefing at our destination before he eventually arrived - he will have seen me go past him at some point early on and then no more. I never said anything, neither did he but I noticed he did take a good look around my car!

I don't think my Colleagues are all jealous - I think they are just victims of a prejudice they themselves perpetuate and simply cannot have themselves seen driving a convertible for fear of ridicule and stereotyping. Their loss, not mine! :D

Well I've had mine called a "hairdressers car" by someone who has a honda integra type r? whats that then a rice mobile?

Z4 I think is more man sized than a boxster and has a better badge than the 350z, I have seen quite a few women driving them however - never a bad thing IMO  Lucy has by far the best sig on the forum :P

...It says right in the manual that you don't have to wait for it to warm up...

Sorry for going off topic here, but when you state that "you don't have to wait for the car to warm up"... what exactly do you mean... I have my brother a lift the other day and he told me to wait until the car warms up before driving it the way i was... i only hit 3500rpm :)

Copied directly from the 2004 manual - Page 36 - Do not allow the engine to warm up while
the vehicle is stationary. Instead, begin
driving immediately at a moderate engine
speed.

So, .2 percent of the male population drives a “mans car”. This suggests a deep seeded sexual identity problem. Don’t confuse hubris or persistent masturbation as manliness. A car doesn’t define a man, his confidence and the ability to rationalize what’s important in life defines a man.

Cheers

Another girl zed owner here.

Haven't had any comments regarding the zed being a hairdresser car, but I've always thought of the MX5 as a hairdresser car.

I certainly don't drive it like a girls car.. It gets hooned (within limits of course) and I've had the tail out sideways a few times.

I've only seen a few Zed's and they have had male drivers. (Including convertibles, top down) Zed's are pretty expensive in Aus, so not many of them around.

Well read into this what you will but by "hairdressers car" I dont mean some bimbo with her you know whats hanging out, I think its aimed more at the male hairdresser ie: gay car, cos although they do womens hair they tend to be a bit woofty if you know what I mean  a male barber on the other hand is usually some fat bloke who will cut your hair and charge you a fiver for it.

Anyway, as someone else has said? I previously had a smart roadster, I still do infact and that was exactly the same - considered to be a gay car... I beg to differ but a lot of men who like their shoes and hair rather than women and booze do own one :?

And I have no prejudice against gays or lesbians I just dont want to be considered either cos I drive a certain car :D

Number plates in America are probably less restrictive.

Heck, here in NC you get 8 spaces total so you have to be really, really creative. The DMV is so clueless, though, they printed tons of plates (non-personalized plates are 3 letters and 4 numbers) with the three letter combo WTF xxxx. Some kid who texts a lot told her clueless grandmother what the f@#$ WTF meant, she told the DMV and they got their knickers in quite a twist. It was pretty funny.

You usually find people who go on about 'girl's car' or 'hairdressers car' drive a boring Euro box themselves. I have owned all manner and size of cars over the years basically cos I love cars!

If I decide to downsize for my next car I would probably have an MX5 (now they've sorted the ride height and suspension out!). It's all about the fun you can have driving the car.
