What have you done to your car today?

Hopefully I can get away with just poking or cutting a hole through the foam at the point where the adjuster is reachable (the big circular hole below the airbag) and taping it shut when done.

Ouch. I wouldn't have thought to test at speed before refitting everything either.

I find a sharp blade (usually use a Stanley blade) cuts through the butyl quite happily, and then it'll stick back to itself almost as-new rather than putting a hole in the membrane. Shouldn't need to open up too much of that corner to fold it back & get access to the adjustment hole.

Tried that the first time round, and couldn't get it separated cleanly. Which is why I simply destroyed the old foam, spent 3 hours cleaning the door, and installed new foam + butyl.
But I'm hopeful a carefully cut slit in the shape of a plus sign if I can get to it that way, or a hole in the right place would be ok; there's already a few slits in the foam for cable passthrough as it is (airbag cable, lock electrical connection, mirror control and speaker cables for instance). I'll tape a cover over the slit/hole afterwards to keep it sealed.

And yeah, testing at speed was not on my list of things to check when I pretty much had everything together again in the door frame. Lesson learned for the passenger door when it eventually goes out :)

Warm it up slightly, pull it apart and then you can cut it easily. Warmed butyl is like a chewing gum. Even more warmed it becomes a sticky paste.

Cleaning gasoline will dissolve the butyl if cleaning is needed.

I took the doors apart on my e39 a hundred times already, there is also this foam+butyl and I never had any bigger issues with it, it's just messy when warm :D

[ref]ryushe[/ref], don't faff about taking the door apart!
Remove the outer door handle and then you can see the tail end of that same Torx screw with the window fully up. It has a smaller, male torx fitting on it. Remembering that now it is effectively a lefthand thread, you can loosen it and adjust the window from there. This is in fact the approved method as per NewTIS.
One point to note (he says from bitter experience): once you slam the door shut to check the alignment it's a bugger to try and open it again while holding the handle in place. Easier to reach across from the passenger side.

Took it in for an oil service today and came out having had an inspection 2 completed? Anyway, also new brake fluid and spark plugs and an empty wallet. They said the gear box rear seal was leaking slightly, hence the oil mist on the gearbox and the nsf bottom ball joint had slight play in it. But they did say it was a nice car. better start saving up.

In other news I'm expecting my steering wheel back from Royals this week, can't wait to get it all back together with the redone plastic pieces and fitted!
It came, and it's since fully assembled and fitted. Happy the plastic trim came out as good as it did, and that I went with a matte finish instead of the shiny finish I had before. The matte looks so much better. Overall very pleased, it looks absolutely great!

New wheels look fab looks grand. I went with perforated leather on mine and stitching to match my champagne leather.

Passed MOT, no advisories! Not bad for a 21 year old motor. Aging better than I am, for sure!

Used a new MOT place and they commented on how tidy the car is, which is always nice :)

Don't have time to rip everything apart again to fix this, but will have to get this sorted this weekend as it's super annoying. Hopefully I can get away with just poking or cutting a hole through the foam at the point where the adjuster is reachable (the big circular hole below the airbag) and taping it shut when done.
Well got that sorted today, week later than I would've liked, but at least it's done. Didn't even have to cut the foam; I could still peel back the corner with the adjuster hole behind it. Happy days.

In hindsight, that would've been a great option seeing I share your champagne interior :)
Oh well, still pretty happy with the tricolor stitching I have now.

Moved Roof motor to bakck book thanks to the group.

Clayed front bonnet and DA on a green pad and meguirs renovation. finished off with Fusso. BMW paint is hard so was dificult.

The tri colour stitching looks grand.

I had a load of alcantara parts on my old 130i (dash trim etc) and I did the stitching in that to match the seats and have done it a few times since.

I’ve sorted the bulb warning issue with my car today; the passenger side headlight and fog light bulbs were out. With both being out at the sane time, I feared something more sinister but new bulbs sorted it. I changed the drivers side headlight bulb too to ensure no colour difference.

With the arch liners off, I removed my manky fog lights which were beyond saving.

These have been replaced with the blanking plates that I painted last week.

The price of new gigs was nuts, and I’d rather put the cash towards a BDS intake.

Went out for lunch with the wife in the Z4. Loved driving it although I miss the fuel economy of my Aygo.
Jacking pads arrived in the post so used one and my new 3 tonne low entry Jack to lift each front wheel one at a time. Inspection around the wheels arches, a quick wipe over and visual inspection of the springs and brake lines. Cleaned the wheels thoroughly while they were off. Cleaned the lower trim panels each side and around the oil drain area.
One of the clips is missing from the lower trim/cill covers so I need to source a spare or two.

Assume you have no bulb warning light after removing the fog lights?
Have you just blanked off the connections or taped them up out of the way?
I want to do the same on my car.

The bulbs are still in the car, they’re just zip tied out of the way for now.

I canned my Carly subscription last year so currently cannot code. If I’d removed the bulbs I could have turned the voltage warning off to get rid of the bulb error. For now, a couple of zip ties and keeping the bulbs in place will do.
