What have you done to your car today?

I’ve sorted the bulb warning issue with my car today; the passenger side headlight and fog light bulbs were out. With both being out at the sane time, I feared something more sinister but new bulbs sorted it. I changed the drivers side headlight bulb too to ensure no colour difference.

With the arch liners off, I removed my manky fog lights which were beyond saving.

These have been replaced with the blanking plates that I painted last week.

The price of new gigs was nuts, and I’d rather put the cash towards a BDS intake.

Assume you have no bulb warning light after removing the fog lights?
Have you just blanked off the connections or taped them up out of the way?
I want to do the same on my car.

The bulbs are still in the car, they’re just zip tied out of the way for now.

I canned my Carly subscription last year so currently cannot code. If I’d removed the bulbs I could have turned the voltage warning off to get rid of the bulb error. For now, a couple of zip ties and keeping the bulbs in place will do.

Just saw your other post so that’s some good work today.

I didn’t have enough time to be more thorough but there’s no rush.

Good to know on the fogs and where I can get some paint from for the blanking plates.

MOT passed, all good for another year :driving:

Advisory for corroded rear brake pipes, will give them a clean and see what state they're in.
seems to be such a common report. Had it on my CLS for a couple of years. When having the brake discs replaced recently I cleaned the lines with a wire brush then added some Krust treatment, then a top coat of Matt black enamel paint (just hobby stuff). Took me the time for the Krust to cure. So simple. And, bingo, no more advisory!! Clean MoT last time out. Mercedes quoted £1800 to replace the brake lines. Get out of here!!

Good news, well done.

MOT places are fickle about this. Normally it’s just surface corrosion or crud that will rub off. Pay particular attention to where the pipes disappear under the plastic fairing, as you can get a buildup of crud, roadsalt and moisture there.

Hasn't had a clean in a while so quite possibly is just surface crap! I will clean and cross fingers.

Thank you both. :)

I suspect it's an arse-covering exercise. They are not allowed to go around cleaning things off. So they state that the pipes were covered in something so they couldn't check properly.
That way, when you're a mile down the road and a pipe fails and you hit a tree, you can't go back and sue the MOT inspector.

To be fair, that's better than the alternative - MOTs that cost £500 and they cleaned the underside thoroughly and recorded every single fault they found.

ours went in for its MoT today with my usually trustworthy Independent. Came away with an easy pass BUT two advisories; one on each rear brake pipe!!… the attitude was ‘it will just be there for a few tests now, nothing to worry about’. Fuming. Disappointed. I too am thinking this is a VOSA tick-box exercise.

Our car has done 320 summer miles, all in dry weather since last years clear pass. Plus, in Dec (60 miles ago) it had an oil change and health check and nothing was said then, to at least give me chance to address it. I don’t like advisories but the attitude seems to be ‘don’t worry about them’.

Tomorrow the car goes to BMW for the VANOS recall, eventually. I’m going to ask them for a second opinion on the brake lines. I’ve tried to have a look under the car this evening and from what I can see there’s nothing to see (albeit without the car in the air it’s not that simple).

I mentioned before I had the same advisory last year on my CLS and, in fairness there was surface corrosion which I dealt with and the next MoT came back clear.

For me, any advisory is a minor failure and I would want to get it fixed. However I feel these brake line advisories are a farce.

I feel better now I’ve got that off my chest.

Will let you know what the BMW techies say…

Brace yourself with BMW looking at it!

Whenever my older cars have been in for recalls, the upsell for additional work has always been strong.

Took the front bumper off to get it painted.
tried to clean front foglights but the chrome has come off the lamps

They can be refurbed.

FWIW I'd be happy to take any old fogs off anyone's hands!

Saw this randomly and thought of forum members… pricy but I guess it’s rare. Someone may have to have this to show their love for their Zed. Enjoy

Spent Saturday afternoon fitting new brakes discs, pads, handbrake shoes all round on the 2.5i. Was a bit apprehensive about the handbrake shoes having had massive issues with them on a 1 series previously but it went swimmingly well. The old handbrake shoes didn't look that worn, but the inner surface of the disc they bind to was massively corroded so it's no wonder the handbrake never worked that well.

Needs two new rear tyres ( ) and then its ready for the MOT retest 🤞🏻

I didnt fancy touching the handbrake, but i did scuff up the shoes with some 80 grit sand paper, im going to have a look at adjusting them .

Ironically, I didn’t bother to install this when I actually had the Eventuri kit. That kit is long gone, but I picked up a new scoop only from a fellow member here.
