What have you done to your car today?

Installed Gaptech RCH+, twice :x Those connectors that come with it are pretty garbage. After installing, and it working for most of the day, it then completely stopped working. Replaced all of the connectors with good ones, so touch wood no further problems.

Put 20mm rear and 15mm front Direnza spacers on. 20mm at the back really does beef up the look of the rear end.

If they're the scotch-lock things mine came with I just put them straight in the bin and soldered the Gaptech into place.

Wash and wax and detail cleaned the wheels.
Started to clean the underside of the car but I need a low height trolley jack to make further progress.

Swapped out the internal lights and the number plate lights for LED bulbs.
Gave her a good wash.
My boot had quite a few scratches on it, so i filled these with clearcoat, wet sanded using 1000-3000 paper, used a cutting compound, and finally a finishing compound. I was pretty nervous about the whole sanding aspect of it but I am very happy with how it has turned out.
I now have the confidence to tackle other areas of the car

great effort.

So since the seats don't really match the interior it's kinda annoyed me, so cue taking the car apart and get wrapping (but not my singing!).
The dash trim came out a pice of piss.

I couldn't be bothered to take the whole centre console out, so I thought I'd see if I could wrap it in situ.

Top is the finished one! (Sorry about the finger prints).
Oh and I did add little piece of carbon to put the magnetic phone mount on a sit wouldn't stick to the textured dash.

Forgot to take a pic before, so here is the during (Left).

And only one major laceration.... Who knew scapels were sharp!! (I do use them every day to cut carbon!)

Continuing my incredibly slow maintenance routine - brake fluids today.

I've not yet connected the phone wiring/mic yet, I had to get that separately as my z4 was not pre-wired for telephony so I can't comment on that side of it yet.
But the streaming from phone is fine, META data displayed on the nav screen, all steering wheel controls work with it.
It also has some really nice comfort features as a nice little addition:
  • You can set the indicators to blink 1, 2 ,3 or 4 times with one tough of the indicator stalk, just like newer cars
  • You can set the doors to auto lock when you reach a certain speed, or auto unlock when you take the key out of the ignition

It's a great device and Ted Salmon, the guy who created it, is exceptionally helpful. I would recommend it to anyone.

I guess it's handy to be able to easily set those features, but you can also set both of them (and several others) with Carly and other software.

if i know and this function i have from production, lock and unlock trought if i drive car. But the indicators is great features and i interested for BT call with ext mic. i dont have navi screen only Bussines CD radio and this is what i missing i have retrofit paddle shifters and multifuction and this is something great if it si possible call via car. Let me now please if you will test ext mic and BT call.

Took my first post winter trip to tour the WW2 Destroyer U.S.S. Alabama (5hr round trip) and the 22 year old girl didn't miss a beat.

Finally got the airbag light to go off on the 2.5i so it can go for MOT this week. Had a persistent "986B Resistance, firing circuit, thorax airbag , rear left (E85, E60, E61 ), or knee airbag, front Left ( E63, E64), too high" error code being thrown from the passenger satellite module. Swapped the module to an identical one, code persisted. Swapped the airbag with the 3.0si, fault persisted. Went through all the connections cleaning, checking continuity and resistance where I could. Also disassembled/reconnected the SRS connectors on the battery positive terminal which I think might have been the cause in the end. Fingers crossed it stays off, reassembled everything with the original parts for the 2.5i and it's still happy.

The 3.0si keeps ending up with a flat battery recently, suspect it's a very unhappy battery but have it plugged into the CTEK on a reconditioning cycle, see if that makes any difference. Whilst I had the passenger door apart (see above) I fitted the door speaker which was missing on the factory spec. Then took the driver's door apart and fitted the door speaker to that. Due to the battery being out the car I've reassembled everything without testing the new speakers, so fingers crossed I got everything connected fine :D

Took the door apart and fixed my broken window regulator. Cable was completely frayed.
Wasn't as bad a job as I imagined it to be either!
Lessons learned for the next time: DO NOT just rely on testing the position of the window and if it closes/opens correctly standing still before putting the interior together with nice new foam and butyl tape without testing the window positioning for wind noise at speed first. I now have a fairly noisy window above 75 mph and I think it has to do with the window tilting forward a bit too much due to the placement of the rear window clamp (adjusted with the plastic piece that sandwiches the window from what I gather, not the horizontal adjuster at the bottom).

Don't have time to rip everything apart again to fix this, but will have to get this sorted this weekend as it's super annoying. Hopefully I can get away with just poking or cutting a hole through the foam at the point where the adjuster is reachable (the big circular hole below the airbag) and taping it shut when done.

In other news I'm expecting my steering wheel back from Royals this week, can't wait to get it all back together with the redone plastic pieces and fitted!
