What have you done to your car today?

Not so much what I did, but what I didn’t do… had a mad hour or two where I was planning on putting the Zed into the auction to enable an itch to be scratched… I found myself pining for a bit of 80s Fast Ford. An RS1600i to be precise.
I haven’t the space or budget for both. And once the starry eyes had cleared I remembered what a beautiful car I have, how much I enjoy driving it (now it’s not got run flat tyres on it) and how dependable it is (no oil leaks, no rust, never fails to start…) Oh and the Ford would cost me more. Much more. So that was my weekend. Long live (stay) the Z4 :driving:

I am glad you saw sense, especially as Fords don’t do it for me what so ever

I think you had a lucky escape there!

Several years ago a motor trader mate of mine was buying and selling older cars and bought a MK3 Capri. Knowing how much I had loved the 2.8 Injection Capris I had in the 80s he insisted I drove it. I was glad to get out of it and back in my E86!

That's when I realised that for me 80s cars were best left in the 80s as happy memories. :D

Changed my rocker cover, gasket and eccentric shaft sensor yesterday. All went well if you exclude dropping one of the ESS bolts into the engine - very luckily it stopped half way down the block on the timing chain so I fished it out with a magnet. Very phew!!! Pig to get the sensor out but what I should have done was detach the sensor and then screw the bottom bolt back into the sensor - makes extraction easier.

Was worried that I’d somehow mess up the valvetronic motor when removing and reinstalling it but it fired first time with no error codes at all. Runs better /more stabily now too.

Glad I did it. Took I reckon 4 hours all in.

Not today, but yesterday.

Cleaned down the engine bay and refurbished the DISA before reinstalling. Officially my first job on the project complete!

Itching to get on with more but currently have my hands full with my daily!

MOT stuff: Changed control arm and lollipop, still got the other one to do, rear short brake pipes deleted for wezmoto braided lines that match the front. All the rest of the steel brake lines had been replaced with copper, except these two wee lengths

Replaced cracked plastic under tray. Clean bill of health from the tester. :)

The fact I have two hammers here should explain the rusted bolt problems common to rainy NI. Not pictured, the bolster chisel employed on the n/s top bracket. :D

Glad to get this daft thing off. The centre bracket is rendered redundant by dint of the wezmoto lines having plastic washers too large to pass through the bracket hole.
I used cable ties but they didn’t really seem necessary.

Ordering oil and filters today.

Reapplied coating to the bumper and front wings of [ref]MaldivesMax[/ref]’s Z4 after a respray three months ago, following an unfortunate encounter with one of my neighbours’ Peugeot… :headbang:

Got in my project 2.2i, loaded with tools and drove 100 miles to visit Paul ([ref]Neens76[/ref]). We've spoken loads of times but never met before.
Couple of hours to do a leisurely replacement of the top cover gasket on his immaculate 3.0i, plus a confidence check of all the stored faults.
The car is on 86k and I suspect it was the original gasket as it was more akin to toffee brittle than rubber! Slightest touch and it shattered into a thousand shards.
Which doesn't say much for previous maintenance as there were two almost new coils fitted! Pretty sure the old gasket had just been left in place as it was the worst I've seen. Hopefully no more burning oil on the exhaust.
After all the dodgy weather it was so nice to get there and back in glorious autumn sunshine, with the little 2.2 returning a healthy 40.3mpg.

switched out my aging stock shifter for a leather m-sport style short knob without the ///M logo. I love it! I didn’t really like the M logo on my car to be honest.

Not today but had tyre repaired after picking up a screw and it going flat, then had the resultant flat battery (from lack of movement due to the puncture) replaced by the RAC!! Interestingly, I don't think my range display works any more :(

Birthday out in the car with the wife today. Breakfast at Bovey Tracey then up to the Devon Bonsai place, then Crediton garden centre and back to Paignton seafront for coffee. Out all day till dusk roof down drive all day but for 10 mins as managed to dodge any rain. Amazing
