What have you done to your car today?

Major milestone reached in rear end refresh! Subframe is back in and bolted up!

Obviously was quite a sketchy operation but using a wide board supporting both the subframe and arms really helped as I could jack in the middle and support at the ends and go up in a few steps. To finish with, my lovely wife operated the jack while I was laying down and hammering the two front bushes (see what I did there? )

Yep, this car thingy, the disease runs deep 🤦🏻‍♂️
How did you end up with a Lotus Carlton steering wheel?!? What a prize!! I’m also now thinking I need to hang my spare alloy wheel(s). Would it hang with the tyre??? Prob too heavy

Tbh I've just kept my eyes open over the years and sometimes just fell lucky - I think I got that steering wheel off eBay years ago when crashed ones were often broken, I got if for pennies really considering its rarity. As said I've been lucky, i.e. a couple of years ago I managed to fall into a conversation with a chap who years ago had an original Audi Quattro Sport SWB from new and he didn't like the steering wheel, replaced it with something else like an OMP and it just sat in a cupboard until I got chatting. He also had a virtually brand new 20V Ur-Quattro steering wheel, same again he replaced the steering wheel, so I crossed his palm with silver and now they adorn my garage wall with a few other bits of car curio.

Anyway, as regards wheel hangers, I don't think these ones would work with tyres. But if there's nothing available on the market I have hung previous wheels up with tyres on by use of a strong shelf bracket, so the centre of the wheel hangs on the top beam of the bracket, use a bit of pipe lagging to protect the centre of the wheel from damage and hey presto.

Well I've been away from the forum and car a couple of weeks, so it was great to get back to the zed and take it for a spin! I had a fun blast down to Cheddar Gorge this morning to make best of the nice weather whilst it's still around!

Cheers! Yeah pretty happy with how the pics turned out, and I’ve chucked the last one in :)

Also had a bit too much time on my hands yesterday and decided to spend time mocking it up as if it was period correct marketing material for BMW

Had a leak from the washer fluid bottle. Suspected it was the pump, but I think it was that the washer bottle is the 2 pump version for headlight washers and the pump for the headlights was capped off with a bolt and heavily corroded.
I've bodged it by resin glueing a bottle cap over the pump mount and sealing it with high temperature gasket sealant I had leftover from my PC building days.

Time will tell the quality of the bodge... but so far it is water tight!

The original bumper had washer jets, but they were in a terrible condition and the pipe work had all been cut and “bolted”, so I got rid of all that. Careless of me to leave the pump capped off in that state!

Not at all, much neater than my bottle cap plug.
