What have you done to your car today?

After a recent recommendation on here by someone, I gave my black and chrome grill a going over with Auto Glym rubber and vinyl cleaner. Looks like new, even after I’ve washed. Thank you. Top tip.

Disassembling the front corner ready for a full hub replacement, suspension and brake refresh. Can anybody recommend the right sized tool to split the ball joints attaching the kingpin to the track rod and lower wishbone (they look both the same).

I got this beast from Amazon, used it on my SLK.

Fitted new rear discs, pads and handbrake shoes.
Adjusting that handbrake is a right PITA even following the instructions with the spring thing I can only get it set to 6 clicks not 4:(

If anyone is wondering what that greasy shmoo all over the rear end its lanoguard and what appears to be half of the country side, not quite sure what to make of it. There seems to be a lot of hype and not much longer term stuff other than its easy to apply and makes your rear end all shiney. Note this was a month after application after the "heatwave" we have just had so it doesnt appear to have "gone off" due to the heat.

Also fitted a new intake boot as the little hose had started cracking then fel apart pretty much as soon as I touched it.

I don't want to tell granny how to suck eggs as I haven't got a clue how to do that job but is that long spring meant to be in that odd position as it looks as if it is jammed up against the thing with the cog on it and stopping it moving around. Apologies if I am being stupid

When I did the first side I checked against the other side to make sure everything was in the correct place, I did think the spring was a bit tight against the adjuster but checking the PelicanParts page and a few youtube videos the spring seems tight against the adjuster in all of them. I also made sure that the adjuster was nice and free when assembling, so hopefully its all good.

If anyone has any good tips (hopefully it doesn't involve taking things apart again) im willing to give them ago otherwise I will just ask the garage to adjust it when I take it for its MOT next month.

It's supposed to be tight against the adjuster, otherwise the adjuster would be able to "freewheel".

Correct. its a bit 'heath robinson' but it works this way on many a vehicle.

Bit the bullet and got a high end premium coilover set. Next event is in 2 weeks, we’ll see if it can help a mediocre driver like myself out down some respectable times

Thanks guys I had another go today as the drivers side seemed to be dragging so figured I should take a look. The little cam lock(?) with the spring had popped off on one of the pads and it seems when I was trying to adjust last time I adjusted the adjuster so small it actually stuck so you couldn't do it through the hole with the screw driver.

I freed up the adjuster, re seated everything and reset the cam lock. Now the handbrake is happy on a hill at 4.5 clicks.

I would very much love to meet this Mr Heath Robinson he has a lot to answer for along with this Mr MacGyver

Ok Ok I`ll ask ..........what high end coilovers did you buy ......

Ha sorry wasn’t meant to be leading question. I went with MCS 2 way non-remote setup. Kept ride height very conservative:

Separately, finally upgraded to homelink mirror with compass.

Wrapped the steering wheel kindly supplied by Jarhead (thanks again bud).

It's not a perfect job by any means but not bad for a £10 AliExpress cover. :P Going to spray the trim pieces and refit before replacing the current wheel.

Also changed the gear knob out as the old one was looking a bit tired. Was sceptical again of another AliExpress special but it actually feels good to use (the photo has shocked me into booking my day out to give it a clean tomorrow  ).

Loaded up the Z and set off for Saarbrücken with a few friends, including Bas’ Barchetta he painstakingly restored last winter. Once out of the Netherlands, we only took the backroads and we will keep doing so all the way to Italy. Passed through Adenau too, with the obligatory pitstop at the Cockpit bistro just off the ring (where they had the 1000km ADAC Endurance race).

Today, it’s the Vosges from Saarbrücken to Mulhouse, with a day in the Alps Monday :driving:

Normally drive my car locally and was starting to wonder if my Zed was starting to suffer from sticky steering.

Driving to the the German Car Festival last weekend and then upto to the Peak District doing a long stretch on the M1 I've decided it definitely had. Holding the wheel steering at 12 and 9 o'clock, with a death grip, for 60 miles straight, fighting to keep between the lines soon got boring.

So yesterday I popped over to see enuff_zed to get the ring adjusted.

Too early to tell if its completely gone but a quick blast home down the A11 and it is much improved.

Thanks enuff_zed
