What have you done to your car today?

IMG_6195.jpeg

Tore down the inlet side of the engine and replaced the PCV and all breather hoses, both DISA’s, the inlet gaskets, starter motor and a bunch of small gubbins. Also pulled out the alternator and dropped it off for a refurb. Got everything built back up by the end of the day and should have the alternator back in by tomorrow. Same sort of job this fall on the hot side of the engine

Washed the soft top with Renova today, hopefully will have time to re-colour tomorrow
Renovo is superb. Used it on many cars including an E46 M3 and an Abarth 595C
Just went out to re-colour the roof and found it covered with little particles of something and the newly washed yesterday paint covered with a very fine sand. The roof is already very warm. Leaving it for now :headbang:

Sarhara sand particles falling from the atmosphere quite a common thing with our weather these days, often find my cars covered.

Yes it looks like very fine sand, can’t be very healthy stuff to breathe in  glad I didn’t by a black one :headbang:

Okay, so hovered off the roof and gave it one coat of Renovo black, disappointing result, looks a shade darker but has a rough feel to it now and the shiny bits still show up. I have enough left for another coat so will give it another dose but I am not hopeful that it will look any better. :(

I’m curious about this as my roof has jet wash marks and could do with a proper deep clean and a new refinishing.

Never really got to the bottom of the key to success with google!

Cheeky 300 mile round trip to pick up a maldive blue hardtop. Nice to stretch the legs of the Z4 and a fairly uneventful journey, other than someone trying to kill me on the M5. A respectable 36.2mpg to Teignmouth and back. Was getting over 40mpg until the obligatory M5 roadworks/traffic jams hit.

The chap I bought it from was a really nice guy and even took me for lunch (and paid) so I’m deducting £15 off of what I paid for it  He’s got a maldive blue 2.2, which he’s selling as the power steering has gone. Wants £600 for it! I nearly bought it myself, just to save it from being broken  Hardtop is mint besides a tiny chip on the side. Needs a good clean tomorrow. The chap has had it on his car since he bought it, 5 years ago. Today was the first time he’d seen the roof and amazingly it worked perfectly (after I’d reconnected the motor in the boot).

Loving the look with the hardtop. Makes it feel like a completely different car!

Oooooo now that's pretty. A 3.0i ltr too! I'd LOVE to have a hardtop for my Z. For security reasons (things are getting outta hand here in the states apparently) and for winter hooning and not worry about snow, salt and ice on the top.

You can't break a car for just an EPS fail!!!
£295 and about 3 hours work in total.
Could you pass him my number please. Maybe I can help change his mind!

He said BMW quoted him £3000 to rectify it! He said he’s not a ‘car guy’ really. He washes his cars once a year :|

To be fair the paintwork is a problem too. It’s got a lacquer issue on the bonnet and front wings. Plus fairly basic spec. I agree though, I don’t think a car should be broken unless it’s terminal #nozedleftbehind

If your coming down to do his car at Teignmouth could you have a look at my sticky steering please at Newton Abbot.

Well you say it in jest but I’ve often wondered about loading up the tools and going on tour.
