What have you done to your car today?

To do the full job I think the exhaust and rear transmission mount will have to be removed to gain access to the connector.

This is on my to do list and yes I believe you have to remove exhaust to replace the sleeves . Good job

Fitted the new inlet boot, the old one had split, genuine BMW for £33.

Interesting. I always check the corrugated pipe but never think to look at that one!

The engine revs would rise when I pushed the foot brake, so started looking for suspects. I noticed the little pipe was sitting at an angle and it was split.
The bellows part was fine.
Now running sweet again

Thanks to Street who supplied me with a spare badge, I was able to rebalance the coupe again.
BMW may have 50:50 front rear balance, but my E86 had 49:51 balance left to right due to only one badge.

Feel like I hit the turning point in the slow and painful process of refurbushing the rear end: Knocked out the last bushings and put all the new ones in place, ready to reassemble the rear subframe and suspension, refurbishing and painting the calipers in parallel and also still have to knock out the famous exhaust flange studs...

I ended up using the angle grinder to cut off the ears of the subframe bushing and pull them through like other ones as I did not have the special tool and my DIY attemps failes :D

MOT passed with advisories for tyres and anti roll bar links. Booked in for x4 new non-runflats and anti roll bar links on the way. :driving:

You won’t regret the move away from runflats. Makes a world of difference

ready to reassemble the rear subframe and suspension,

Definitely a job worth doing  Are you going to be applying any rust prevention ?

Not at this stage, I will be doing more of a restoration in the future, probably in about two years once I have bought a house, might do an LSD at the same time :driving: Now that I have gone though enerything once, doing it again will be much easier anyway

My list for the weekend.
Inlet off, replaced the crankcase oil breather valve thingy
Crank, inlet cam, exhaust cam, oil level, oil pressure, oil temp sensors
Vanos seals and the rattle ring thingy cos it was in the kit so why not
Air filter, cabin filter, oil filter
Plugs
Any gasket, that came off during this
Oil filter upstand thingy seal

Rad/expansion tank/pipes came off but still leak

Found that the idler pulleys/tensioner are a bit crappy so need to replace those and a new belt next.

Didn’t get to the parking sensor
