Few little bits done on the car today.

Rattle from brake dust cover repaired by mounting with a few washers ( if you look at the pic you can see where the cover has been scraping the disc).. Will sort a proper replacement in due course, just conscious it's a hub removal job.

Leaky Valvetronic gasket replaced and area cleaned. Missed getting an after picture.

Drain holes checked a cleaned.

My boy has been at Butlins with Granny, so had a productive couple of days!

Finally sorted broken parts of my front bumper (misjudged a kerb and turned out to be a very expensive mistake…). Managed to remove the front bumper, after a struggle. Turns out a previous owner, in their infinite wisdom, had screwed the left side of the bumper into the wing with wood screws, rather than replace the broken bracket  Lots of swearing and ‘dremel-ing’ of screws later, it finally came free. New bracket on order.

Fitted the lower grille back into position and secured it with starlock washers. Found that BMW UK and Germany don’t stock the lower splash guards any longer, so was bent over and paid £150 for £5 worth of (secondhand) plastic, as I couldn’t find one anywhere else. Cleaned everything I could access and also painted the cross-bars behind the kidney grilles silver. Also cleaned and coated the plastic undertray with aerospace 303.

Got my 330i front and replacement rear calipers and carriers back from sand-blasting. Cleaned, masked, 2 coats of etch primer and 3 coats of silver caliper paint. Couple of coats of lacquer tomorrow and I can get to fitting all new pistons, seals etc and onto the car along with Wezmoto braided brake lines! Can’t wait! :D

Also cleaned and couple of coats of renovo on the roof to freshen it up.

Replaced the coolant reservoir tank that had developed a small crack and was leaking coolant when the system was hot and pressurised. Caught this in time as no doubt the small crack would have developed into a larger one and caused total coolant loss.
Duff tank was not an original BMW part so its been changed before. Refilled with Blue 50/50 Antifreez mix and bled with heater set to hot.
Brought up to temp and let the fn cut in. Bleed screw closed when no more air was being expelled. Will keep a check on the level over the next few days to ensure there are no more leaks.

Big week of upgrades for me. My bank is probably wondering if I need Jim Browning to look into some unusual spending activity on my behalf but just trying to get the “new” coupe sorted asap before summer… :driving:

- Sparco QRT Performance seats in red leather
- Wiechers rollbar
- SSR Type C refinishing for powdercoat and polishing

Unfortunately it’ll be few weeks till gets delivered but here’s a preview of what they loom like (quite different from stock photos floating online which are darker). Let’s hope if the live up to their pictures online but I like how the shoulder strap holes don’t aren’t trapezoid with plastic borders; very similar to my old Recaro PPs but without the eye gouging price for leather.

Pulled and changed brake pads. Brake light is still on. ???? Fluid level is good (Front Only brakes, tomorrow I review the rears). Maybe the ABS Sensor went bad??? Stealership time perhaps.

Did you replace the pad sensor or resetting code?

Had a go at the 16 years of crud and wear on the steering wheel. By no means perfect but at least it doesn’t scream out anymore! Used Autoglym leather cleaner and Furniture Clinic leather steering wheel kit. Very good the way the bonder has repaired deep cracks from sun on too of wheel.

It actually looked like the leather was worn away. Can only think it's had a sweaty previous life

That is some serious Human Residue on that wheel, I thought sweaty gamers were the worst having coined the phrase "Gamer Gunk" for that exact same residue that builds up on your mouse and keyboard.

I guess the previous owner was partial to a bit of hand cream.
