What have you done to your car today?

[ref]Griffo46[/ref], might as well given that I’ve also taken his M-front bumper  Fun fact: those aero skirts used to be Maldives Blue. I’m building a harlequin car!

Thanks [ref]Oilyfingers[/ref]! It could have been a worse parking job, nearly going into the metal barriers sideways… onwards and upwards; I’ve got an idea to make the best of the wrecked diffuser…

Car looks great now, you must be very proud

Replaced the oil cooler gasket which decided to blow yesterday at 80mph. Today is clean an oil filled engine bay.

Green is the best colour. Got to be one of the rarest.

Are there any roadsters out there in that colour ?

95 coupes, of which 45 LHD. Some 30 made it to Europe. As for roadsters: 203 built, only 5(!) made it to the UK.

Rear bumper off tonight, and dropped at the painters. Right rear panel has been pushed inwards by a few mm. Should be able to finesse that back no problem

Bumper with a slight history; 5 coats of old paint removed, primer set but unfortunately some old deformation is showing through. Slightly more fettling in order, colour should go on next Monday

5 coats? I just did the same job a couple of weeks ago and there was only one layer of black paint or maybe a thick E coat of some kind.
Could a previous owner have repainted your bumper?

[ref]grannyknot[/ref], the previous two bumper-owners have definitely resprayed it at some point. We suspect it’s been two separate resprays: the first was from the original blue (slightly present above base) to a sapphire black. The a respray back to Montego blue, but one that either didn’t take or finish properly, as we found three distinct layers built up. Thoroughness it probably wasn’t, because the clearcoat was extremely thin.

As for the bumper support, any tips on how to remove that?

Sorry, I always think of what you're calling the bumper support as the actual bumper and the plastic panel cover as, I think what you are referring to as the bumper.
So the bumper support is only held on by 6 nuts, easy to remove as are the bumper shocks that attach to the body of the car.
Mine where pretty rusty so had them sand blasted, then a couple of coats of chassis black.

I know, no one would see that rust but it would just keep bugging until I fixed it.

Grannyknot, I really appreciate seeing you fix and make things right. I have the urge to do exactly this sort of thing, and much of the time I do, while other times it's not quite possible. It's the difference between a car that's serviced by numbers and and one that's really cared for.

Thanks for sharing.
