It’s just so satisfying, isn’t it. I am always amazed at cars for sale where owners haven’t bothered to tidy up the engine bay.

Yes when I got mine I was amazed at how nice the engine bay looked, sold it to me. Bought from a forum member. A friend shortly after this bought a car from a dealer and the engine bay looked awful. Unbelievable really.

Absolutely, and it’s so much easier than correcting paintwork. Takes very little time at all, just a little care

This is fantastic. Can you do mine? Seriously though is there a step by step guide of what you did or a video on youtube that will point me in the right direction. I have been thinking about it for a few weeks since I got my calipers done and now you have completely sold it so me.

Picked up these badboys, big thanks for the extremely thorough packaging by [ref]Zedebee[/ref]
I’m really looking to seeing these on your car and you’ve been an absolute gent to deal with, but a domestic transit would have been sooooo much easier

If you were close to me (obvs not, you are in Scotland :( ), I would certainly help
I can do you a step by step, but are you more interested in how to remove/install the trims or how to prep and paint them, or both?

The best place to start is with a spare set of trims, then you can afford to have a few mistakes.

The feeling is entirely mutual, on both counts! Aeros are however hard to come by, so when an opportunity arises… Dropped off at the bodyshop and should be ready soon 8)

Funnily enough, the couple I bought it from didn’t scrimp on the mechanical upkeep… they just weren’t really ‘car people’ I don’t think.

It’s starting to return to it’s former glory, even the battery discharge warning has gone now I’ve been using the car. I did leave the charger on ‘repair’ after charging the battery, so maybe that helped. Still more to do, but enjoying the car

Painting it!

Removing the trims would be a start I saw one guy fail to remove the dash trim and he wrapped it in situ

I was going to get quotes for a respray on the car was thinking if I could remove the trims I could get the guy to spray them as well at the same time. It's only just got back to 100% yesterday mechanically so I will need to give it another good clean outside and try and valet the interior as much as possible as well.

How did you deal with the little pattern/holes in the aluminium, did you grind them out or fill them?

Hi Mike, not sure what you mean.

If it’s the holes for the airbag disable and the sport button, then I was painting the existing trim, so they were correct already. If you wanted to drill out the pattern holes it should be relatively easy (someone on here did it recently), but I don’t know how you would go about filling up an existing hole.

If you mean the textured pattern on the Alu itself, then I sanded most of it off by hand and used a high build primer prior to painting.

Yes the textured pattern on the aluminium. I wish I had more confidence as it would look great IMO.

Hi, lovely job you did there. Can I ask what you used to bring up the black plastic? Not sure what happened to mine but it's pretty grotty (looks pretty much like yours in the before shots but I can't get the marks off.)

The two products used, Bilt Hamber Surfex HD 1/10 ratio for the cleaning agitated with a stiff detailing brush and wiped clean with microfibre cloths. Then Autoglym Rubber & Vinyl care sprayed on and left to dwell before being wiped dry with a clean microfibre cloth

Add a photo so I can see what you’re up against

Also, I use a blower to dry the engine bay/car (gets all the excess water from the pockets). Nothing worse that after an hour that you get that annoying drip/run from the mirrors etc. I looked into car detailing dryers and there is a massive market for these at the moment…however, If like me you shop about a bit then I found that if you type in pet care dryers it comes up with the same models as car detailing but at a huge reduction in price!. Still has variable controls for speed and temperature as well…..wish I bought it ages ago….
