Long nails so more nail varnish Shirley? :lol:

Oops, sorry Rob! :thumbsup:

Changed wipers as they were shot. Used 21" Bosch Aerotwin on both sides. Has a bit of the usual lifting at the end of the passenger side. I have not gone on a test drive yet.

Also over the last two days I received the parts and finished refurbishing my keys (need to finish writing a How To). They both work perfectly fine, only downside is marks left due to the opening and glueing. So I also wrapped one with the same vinyl I will use on the interior of the car. Not perfectly happy with the results, the shape makes it wrinkle, but the vinyl itself is very good and I am confident it'll work well in the car.

I would be very interested in the tutorial, one of mine is completely dead and does not operate the central locking.

Would something like the below be good to cover the damage to your key? Fairly cheap option.

Got my 2.5 back from my BMW indy today. She was in getting work done after an electric water pump failure:-

  • Supply fit and replace coolant pump
  • Supply fit and replace thermostat
  • Flush system and replace coolant
  • Supply fit and new oil filter housing and gaskets
  • Carry out engine oil and filter change

Invoice was a bit sore....eek!!!....but worth it, that's my cooling system sorted for the coming Spring/Summer now - peace of mind. Great to have her back, top down and heated seats on :thumbsup:

Tutorial is finished and up Here
I recommend doing it only if you have the tools and are confident. Otherwise, a someone posted a link to a company that can refub the keys for a fair price.

The silicone covers seem a good option. I still have to wrap the other key and will try to stretch the vynil more, if it works better I'll redo the first one, otherwise I might give those covers a go.

Having refreshed all the suspension, fitted new lightweight wheels with brand new Assy 5’s and taken it for a bit of a drive last night… I’ve booked it in for a 4 wheel alignment on Monday morning at a highly regarded outfit in Bristol :thumbsup:

Those Silicone key fob covers are a bit of a loose fit, my car came with one and it was the only key I had, ended up getting a new key via ebay and having it cut locally but needed a locksmith to code it to the car when I couldnt do it myself with the AK90 machine.

Fixed the calliper on the dog-van today, as it turned out to be absolutely shot. Did the other side 2 weeks ago and had planned to tackle this side as well. Failure today expedited this job :?

New air filter, I’m just not a fan of K&N….

Started to detail the car, with a quick under bonnet for now as I realised I was to close to running out of my ‘go to’ plastic and rubber treatment. Will do it properly when I have some more, but just wanted a quick spruce up;

Most of the plastics have only been cleaned and not treated :headbang:

I've had the E86 for 2 months. A few weeks in, one of the front calipers seized. I dislike scruffy looking brakes anyway so I've been tidying and servicing. I got Budweg calipers from Brake Parts International. They're remanufactured OEM jobs and look like new. I'm pleased with them and they're great value. I've not driven them yet as I carried on giving the underside a good winter going over.

In recent days the left rear corner got a good tidy up, then today I fitted it all with new slider pins and spring clips.

.

Parts removed from the right rear for the same treatment.

Applied the internal windows stickers I received yesterday. Was worried they would not look perfect with tinted windows but I realised what really matters is to get air out and get the adhesive to stick everywhere. So I used a hair dryer and the "non felt side" of a squeegee over the application layer of the sticker to really push on it. Happy with the result, it adds a small detail and advertises the forum :thumbsup:

What is your 'go to' plastic and rubber treatment? Interested to know as I'm looking at giving my engine bay a good clean and detail.

not today but installed the aFe intake a while ago. In my opinion the sound is spot on for me

I use this, not a big fan of autoglym generally but I really like this product;

C877284E-B95F-4BBF-B094-A9B9F2DAA789.jpeg

I cleaned everything with Bilt Hamber Surfex HD mixed at 10% ratio. Worked a treat. The Autogylm ‘engine and machine cleaner’ is a very effective product too, but when 5 litres of Surfex-HD is relatively cheap, it’s such a cost effective solution and brilliantly versatile.

If you only ever used the Surfex at 10% dilution 5 litres is going to last an age :thumbsup:

Completed my first job on the Z4 today. Replaced the starter motor with a new one, surprised how easy it was. Thanks go to Bigwin for his excellent tutorial on the same 2.2 as mine. Found some Torx sockets inherited from my father in law and converted an old handle from a cheap 1970s socket set I bought for my first car. E12 did the job helped by a 20mm ring spanner. Really can’t believe I was going to a garage to have this done and actually enjoyed doing it and no swearing! :rofl: only fly in the ointment was that Euro parts in Newton Abbot and Torquay didn’t have any in stock :headbang: so had to drive wife’s car to Exeter to get one. Will remember next time to check first before I start dismantling. Now I’m on a roll the next job is the windscreen wipers that are not resting where they should.
