What have you done to your car today?

I removed the wheel to check out what's making such a rattle on potholes... I guess now I know, the shock absorber decided to explode!
Now I'm torn between between replacing those expensive B8's, going back to stock B4s or all the way in with coilovers...IMG_20210814_170308.jpg

Took the driver’s seat out for fixing leather that had come loose in the bolster area and cleaned the carpets properly. When reinstalling the seat, noticed that it can be turned to the left or right to align better with the steering wheel.

How old are these B8s. There have been problems with fake bilsteins on the market.
I would certainly recommend B4s for road use, plus Suplex springs.

I just fitted the b4s and suplex springs, more than happy with this set up.

New ATE discs and pads on the front; apart from bashing my finger with a hammer whilst trying to persuade a nut to crack the only other issue was the old retainer screws welding themselves to the old discs.

Anyway all done and the shuddering under braking is gone! Also had a soft clunking coming from the engine bay and turns out it was the two reinforcement bars; they felt solid to the hand but all 4 nuts had backed off slightly; so tightened them back up and all is well.

Just need to do the rears now.

Removed the silly M sport badge in the front grille about 3 minutes after getting home from picking up the new (to me) car. First job done; and quite an important one. Thankfully I can't see any other M badges on it.

Now to find my Carly dongle and see what I can turn on in the computer, and figure out why the airbag light is on.

For the car, bought a ctek charger for times it not used and also the ciggie adaptor to plug direct but unless I crashed the car into the garage wall, near the socket it was too short to connect up, you dont get much cable !!, so ordered the ctek 2.5mtr extension cable which arrived this morning, then today I screwed on the wall and plugged it in. Even though my old conditioner was 'er working' and we went to the pub in the car yesterday, Mr Ctek said it was low on the battery, so been watching it gain orange lights all afternoon :)

Brake fluid change yesterday. Today, tested the brakes out on some Welsh mountain passes - some amazing roads

No idea, I bought the car with them half a year ago.

How many miles did those do, and how long have they been on the car?

I'm curious because my B8s on my old 3.0si did exactly the same as this, after 25k and less than 3 years, but when I contacted Bilstein about warranty they didn't want to know.

I'm sure there was a thread recently where I got shot down for suggesting Bilstein quality was pretty sub-par these days, so interesting to learn I'm not the only one who's had a s**t experience with them!

I wiped down my interior with Meguiar's Interior detailer, protected the leather seats and vacuumed up all the carpet. It wasn't really dirty to the naked eye but there definitely was some grime accumulated lol

I also "downgraded" back to the OEM manual shift knob from a ZHP weighted knob. The ZHP leather finally started to come apart showing the white plastic underneath after 10 years of use. Not bad but I gotta say.... I REALLY am liking the longer OEM shifter. It's super nice and effortless to shift surprisingly.

It's wild to me what the asking prices are for the OEM shift knob these days! You'd think they'd be cheaper than the ZHP but nope.

Moved very wet roof pump to the boot. You do need arms like Mr. Tickle and a lot of patience....Also went to Zedfest where my ECU was reflashed, which got the roof opening and closing on the key...Hurrah!

Fitted some m359s
19x9 front 19x10 rear et35 all round

Bit of a drive out today of nearly 200 miles . Had to do stuff the other side of Stroud and utilising mini TJ ( who is not really mini, as has his driving test next month) and a map as owning an E86 without a funny flap in the dash means we like old skool, we then headed to Caffeine and Machine for a bite to eat. Forgot the roads around Stroud are either devoid of road signs , people who stay their side of the road and love dropping lumps of rock and flint to make you wince when you drive over then . One went with a clunk, but it missed the front lower lip, but not sure what is lower.
Food was good for me at C&M , but a fussy son meant it was a 'bit' upmarket wise when just a portion of chips and a sausage would work. Also buying food 'on line' and then waiting sounds amazing, other than having to set up a payment account and then half the order didnt appear was a bit disappointing. Gone were the days you just said to a human, 'one of those and one of them' then dip your card to pay.
But we had a good day out and the map reading meant we avoided Stow and Moreton , as were both jammed on the way north .

Fitted this to end my Bluetooth woes. Ran the aux lead under the trim and straight into the ashtray: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07C78WV6J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That's very interesting - I'm guessing the DME was reflashed with the Comfort Access option, as I think this is the only 'factory' way to get the roof to close with the key fob?
