What have you done to your car today?

Changed the CCV today on my Coupe.
Badly clogged so glad I got round to doing it, hopefully that'll greatly reduce the oil usage.

Not a fun job, hoses were difficult to remove due to going hard/brittle. Supplied with the wrong vacuum hose (intake manifold to CCV) also so had to reuse the old one. Not too happy about that but the old one seems fine.

[ref]rays545i[/ref], Hi there, can I ask, were your seats difficult to take apart. Thanks in advance

Not too bad mate
4 16mm into the floor
just 2 holding back to seat
Rest trim etc
Torx mainly

Sports seats a little more complex and heated a little more

Today I cleaned the instrument cluster. I am surprised how easy was to disassemble everything. One thing I didn't have at home so I had to buy it was the Torax T9 screwdriver.

Ordered a new Bosch S5 008 12V 77Ah Type 096 battery today. Seems mine's goosed even though she's goes on the CTek over winter or if not being used for a couple of weeks. The currently fitted Lion battery is 7 years old & I've just checked that she's only done 7000 miles in the last 6 years  . I must get out more  .

Fitted a new Bowden cable to the drivers door handle yesterday. A straight forward if slightly fiddly job. It works perfectly now instead of having to heave on the handle like a lunatic before the lock popped  20210325_161817.jpg20210325_171056.jpg20210325_171242.jpg20210325_173615.jpg

MOT day today and oil change

I feel like I've achieved quite a lot today - sorting little things which have been annoying me since I bought the Z4!

Fitted my new badge to replace the one I damaged with masking tape , replaced the slightly broken high-level brake light and removed the seats, ready for a good going over with dodo juice leather cleaner and restorer. The carpet is getting the bissell wet-vac treatment all over! :D Also added the most important bit of kit - Forum sticker!

Almost all went smoothly too... I don't think I've ever done any DIY job on a car, without something going wrong. I watched videos and read guides on removing the brake light (dead simple, 15 minute job etc.), but mine would just not come out on one side. Turns out the plastic casing was wedged under the bodywork and I had to gently level it out in the end, however the lens paid the price. Then the plug simply would not budge. I thought it was superglued in! Some brute force, ignorance, lots of swearing and copious amounts of vape juice consumed (I know, I know... my mate calls it a 'douche-flute'), it relented and popped out.

I feel slightly broken now, but satisfied! :)

Before you took the seats out, you did disconnect the battery didnt you mate? :?

A first today for me. Changed the discs, pads and sensors (minus one wheel). Just need to bleed the brakes and put some fresh fluid in next week before MOT and oil change. 20210328_161001.jpg20210328_160941.jpg20210328_160913.jpg

Replaced a seized caliper! Here’s a video on how I did it!

Yesterday's jobs included:
1 - sort on going saga of the N/S headlight condensation (this is the third headlight!!)
2 - replace lower front grill after a pheasant decided to pick a fight with it.
3 - polish headlights whilst bumper is off.
4 - refit slightly scuffed splitter after hitting a f#cking pothole that then pulled the splitter under the car!!!

Hopefully the headlight will no longer suffer with condensation as it has so far killed two ballasts. New rear cover and seal has been put on (another BMW direct part as again it was cheaper then anywhere else) with a little basali e to try and create a better waterproof seal. Various connections have a thin silicone bead to try and make a better seal. Reason behind that, well this is the third light that has done this and this I'm t has come from a car that had no issues, so to me it means there must be something in my car that creates the issue?? I'm open to suggestions if anyone has suffered the same torment from their car.......
