What have you done to your car today?

Spent 10 minutes adjusting my drivers side bonnet buffer Bump Stop, so that the bonnet now sits perfectly flush with the wing (thank you @Number5 for the tip)

It was niggling me, so now happy 8)

Have you got any more details for this?

Is your car a facelift?

If so, you’re looking at front left and right corners of bonnet slam panel for a smallish rubber stop with a spring loaded rod sticking out of the top... which depresses when you press down (the rod)

You need a small Phillips screwdriver to push down and turn the pin to lock it in place and you can then turn the body of the stop and it will rise/fall as you turn it. It’s even easier than it sounds, trial and error to get it perfect

Thanks for info, looked at mine, they certainly don't spring. Barely touched one with a screwdriver and it literally fell apart! Will get some ordered, hopefully that'll finally cure my rattling bonnet.

Finally got round to removing the rear quarter, took way longer than planned as one of the bolts decided it no longer wanted to be a torx.......it fancied being a round. Tried many different ways to remove the bolt. Ended up cutting the bolt out with a Dremel, after emptying my bag of swear words out all over the drive!!!

A favourite pass time of mine removing rounded bolts (or is that worst)
Always the case with an older car and especially when some previous owner has fists of ham.
I feel your pain.

What do you think of the scorpion? I’ve got one fitted to mine and love it! It really opens up beyond 3k rpm, which is about 80mph in 6th. Not a bad thing for UK roads, but would be interested to hear your experiences

Finally opened up the door panels to fit sound deadening to both doors.

The car doors before were like tin cans and it made myself and passengers wince every time you closed them. The deadening has much such an amazing difference, it now sounds like a proper BMW quality car. The car speakers are also sounding better already as well.

If you haven't done this already I would highly recommend it.

Finished cleaning both cars yesterday, and I'm bloody exhausted, my arms feel like they want to drop off. The post clean beer tasted very good though. I think it must be nearing on 30 hours of cleaning, painting, polishing, waxing, hoovering, dyeing, water proofing, and dressing over the last week. She is not happy. I still need to touch up drivers bolster on the mini, and then I think I'm done

Taken 1 wheel for repair this morning

Ordered a b12 prokit for the mini ( figured i might as well upgrade all 4 corners seeing as I would be replacing the fronts after one failed last week)

Garage needs a clean though :?

Re-insured it after Hastings wouldn't cover coilovers :( That said the new policy was cheaper than the old one so I'm quids in and have peace of mind :D

The Zed and it's daily driver companion had a bath yesterday. Pretty epic combination of motors, does everything I could need.

I spent all day getting out every swirl mark on the coupe today.
Wash, clay bar, Menzerna Heavy Cut 300, then Final Finsih 3500 and then got as far as bonnet with Power Lock Sealant and the rain started.

Also, finished trying out tryres pressures, 18" PS4 all round, and using the 4 psi rule I am at 31psi front and 30psi rear. It has transformed the overall comfort and handling of the car.

I was at 34f and 36r and it was only because of the 4 psi rules I dropped as low as 31/30, but so glad I have.

Wallet is £70 lighter and the wheel is back on the car.. they balanced the wheel but the wheel weights fell off so I'll need to go back and get them to redo it.

Removed the seats, reconditioned the leather, hoovered and shampooed the carpet while they were out, then reinstalled. Cheap fix that made a huge difference.

What's the 4 psi rule?

Found this:

Use the recommended pressure on your tyre placard as a start point, drive for approximately one hour, stop and check the pressure. If it’s gone up by 4psi then your pressures are spot on. This is most unlikely on your first attempt!! So, if they have gone up by more than 4psi, your start pressure was too low. If it has gone up by less than 4psi, then your start pressure was too high. Adjust your pressures by 2psi in the appropriate direction and this will become your starting points for the next cold start.

MOT’d the Coupe today. 86k miles and sailed through with no advisories on MOT at a main dealer. Bet they were gutted

Yeah that is it.

It is a good way to know you are not running pressures too high, and more importantly too low.

It doesn't seem to be as important these days with modern tyre technology, but it still work well, I tend to think if the pressure goes up 'more' than 4psi then they are definitely too low, which is obviously far more dangerous than too high.
But seeing 3-4psi increase means you have about the right cold start pressures.

Full clay bar decontamination and deep wax and polish.. took almost 4 hours but very pleased with the results!! Was gobsmacked how much crud the clay picks off that I didn't even know was there...

So, arranged to meet and old friend for lunch today up on the North Norfolk coast, he has a 997.2 C4S, so wanted to take the Z in case we went for a bit of a blat. However, still not convinced about the handling, so called STS at 8am to see if they could squeeze me in first thing for another Hunter alignment before setting off.

Went back to 0 toe in and removed the more aggressive settings to try with the lower tyre pressures.

To be honest I had decide the E86 just wasn't for me, had even advertised it, but wanted to give it one more try.

Glad I did, with the new pressures and zero toe all round and virtually no camber the car now feels so, so, so much more planted on the road. That gives confidence, and it is that confidence that allows you to keep speed up. I'm sure more camber and a bit of toe in might be better in the right hands, but to me it just felt far too nervous. It was tramlining like mad, I was constantly correcting the steering and it just felt too much like hard work, it was passed the point of being rewarding, it was effort and not much fun.

I enjoyed it so much today over the 80 odd miles of Norfolk B roads that I removed the advert for it. :D
