What have you done to your car today?

Started adding in some noise insulation in the boot to try and dampen the exhaust drone.

T8EVUzq.jpg

I'm using a hill near my home as the control (this is super not scientific  ).

- 3rd gear, 2k rpm on load
- Using sound app on my phone

Already seen a -1 db improvement - from ~74 db to ~73 db.

I'll be adding some padding to the underside of the parcel shelf. Depending on how that goes, I may also add some along the heat shields above the muffler.

... also the splash guard under the rear is loose again (after 3 attempts at re-fastening it) and rattling :headbang: Wondering if I can just run without it. I suppose it was protecting the resonator that was there and the diff?

Just finished fitting all the carpets and trim in (except for parcel shelf). Annoying drone frequency is gone!

Went to pick the wife up and she was wondering why her ears weren't buzzing anymore.

Still hear the exhaust all the growl, bangs and pops just no in-head drone.

Best $30 I spent all week :D I'm a happy chap.

That’s great news  I bet your Zed is a joy to drive again now :D

It's certainly improved :) drove around a bit more and as the exhaust got hotter it seems some of the resonance is still audible though not as piercing as before.

Ive still got bits to experiment and cover so the fiddling continues tomorrow!

Hi all, 4 week old newbie
1.Today I've sorted the passenger window air gap, only needed a simple 2mm tweek on the door lock bracket.
2.Also fitted a sports filter which did make a difference. Maybe because not only breathing better it's only half as thick as the standard paper kind.
3. Unblocked both roof drains using an inspection camera and a 2mm x1m length of tig rod welding wire.
Have left both cross rubber plugs off.
4. Upgraded disa valve. If u choose to do this I highly recommend letting the thread lock go off before refitting aswell as marking a line on the bolt head and rod actuator. Then over the next few drives checking that the bolt stays still. I found that u can't tighten the bolt very much so the action of the disa valve will actually undo the bolt if its not thread locked enough. Obviously the bolt can't come out as there's not enough room but it would render the flap loose in its fitting.
5. Updated my 2005 satnav map. Really easy, bought an original 2019 Pro disc off ebay for £8 which included an update disc with it. Took no more than 5 minutes and it looks so much better.
Next on list is cdv delete, back box delete booked in for 15th and doing belt tensioner on Sunday as have an annoying squeeky rattle between idle and 1200rpm.
Great forum, great people, glad to be on here.........Tim

Had a double take when I saw this. Thought you'd added a boot-mounted RPG launcher.

Fixed my new custom billeted steel gear knob on with thread locker - no matter what I did the grub screws kept coming undone - now it's nice and solid! :)

What made you do that?

You must have had them before - and as you've said they're a bit too "E46" for a Z4.

they were cheap and the cars got runflats on at present so thought i'd try em!

2 good reasons there!

I did the same last year - got a set of square 8J x 18 CSL reps with non-runflats at a price I couldn't refuse!

Haven't experimented with them yet though.
