What have you done to your car today?

Began wrapping the dash in carbon. I’m finding the vinyl doesn’t want to stick to the aluminium though! Any tips from others who’ve done this before?

I think it will look good when finished!

I added some blue pin stripping on my aluminium dash and found the same thing. I just used some APC and scrubbed it hard with a microfibre towel - seemed to help as I think the reason it doesn't stick is that dust/dirt gets stuck in the brushed metal grooves!

Did my gaskets (no more leaks and wasted oil hopefully!)

And waiting to make sure the leaks are fixed on the cover before I fit this bad boy :D

How did the dash turn out after cleaning? I actually like the look of a clean alu dash but not when it’s got all the black dirt in the grooves - not found an effective way to deep clean it as of yet!

Which stuff are you using? I used the 3m stuff when I did mine and cleaned the trims with isopropol alcohol first. I also warmed it with a hairdryer

Wasn't anything dramatic - just when u look closely there's no grimmy bits! I found mine when dirty, you rub your finger on it and you can pick up bits of ... Stuff :|

It’s not 3m but a cheaper alternative on eBay. Using a heat gun to heat it but it just won’t stick to the aluminium very well & when heated it just peels back off.

It sticks to the granite worktop pretty well as I found out when clearing up, so I know it’s sticky!

Tried wrapping again and this time with more wrap that I stuck to itself on the back which helped. Still some wrinkles coming back after being in the car all day in the heat :(

MOT passed no advisories, only done 3k in a tear. Also taxed the old girl. Jesus they are trying to get us off the roads....But happy day all round, the new front discs, pads and caliper couple months back helped.

Are you degreasing the aluminium enough?

I gave it a good clean and wipe down this evening and tried it again, wrapping my door handles too. The old wrap on the door handles was far more sticky!!!

I think it’s just a dodgy bit of vinyl! I’ll see what I can find and give it another go soon

Changed the rear trailing arm bushes to Powerflex. Never again will I do that job!

Easy to get the old Bush out, but took hours to get the new ones in :(

Changed the wishbones for some Meyle HD.

My god what an awful job.

Spent about an hour smashing on the pickle fork to get the passenger side hub joint to come loose. Very nearly gave up, but persistence paid off in the end. Wasn't helped by it being so frigging hot.

Then came the drivers side, the inner joint bolt is hampered by the engine mount, meaning it had to be loosened from beneath the car, 1/10th ish turn at a time.

All back together after about 3-4 hours and the slight knock seems to have gone now. Just need to do a motorway speed brake test to see if the pulling to the left has also gone.

Fitted cruise control and rear drop links. Also has a 4 wheel alignment after fitting powerflex rtab on Thursday with new rear top mounts :)

Fitted a new head unit and swapped the cabin lights for led’s.
