What have you done to your car today?

Fitted the glovebox back into the 3.0si after rebuilding the hinge with epoxy, and lubricating the soft-open piston.

Also intended on removing the sound generator foam at the bulkhead, only to find it was already out. Slightly disappointed to find that, it still sounds muted compared to the 2.5i with a Gravity exhaust on. Maybe I'll pull the second foam, maybe I'll just enjoy being able to drive at 70mph with the roof up :driving:

Also tried to use the cup holders and broke the driver's side arm. :headbang: Printed https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4641584 to fix it but haven't fitted it yet. (First PLA print on a smooth PEI sheet with Bambu P1S, no brim and perfect adhesion to the bed. Easier than the textured PEI sheet I've been using till now.)

A good test would be to pull the other foam ready for your trip next week but take it with you so you can replace it if it gets too annoying . :)

Finally got round to refreshing my seat using Gyeon and furniture clinic products gave the carpets a wet vac at the same time .

Remember with the Gravity you are playing with the exhaust noise, but with the foam you are playing with induction. They will sound very different. In my M54 experience, taking out both foams is great with the top down, but too much at the top end with the roof up. When I took both foams out of my coupe, I very quickly put one back in again, as it’s much too raucous at the top end. The two foams are different sizes and densities, so you do have 4 options to choose from - no foam, white only, black only, or both.

Very true, and having had it up top in the rev range today it does sound better than I expected. The burbles on the overrun/downshifts are a bit more muted though, I suspect maybe something exhaust related will give it more of the experience I'm after.

I ran out of time, other things took priority before we left! Suspect I'll not want to be wrenching on it whilst we're away - knowing my luck I'd strip the intake pipe off to find it has had the other foam removed too.

Yesterday fitted the CarPlay unit I've had in four different cars now, don't have the right loom bits to make the steering wheel controls work but it's good enough for a road trip.

Also threw some new front brake pads on, which now they've bedded in are making a world of difference to the stopping power. Discs barely have a lip on them and no deep scoring so fingers crossed they'll last well into next year now. Definitely didn't forget to torque the front wheel bolts up and make it to the other end of town before remembering and having to call into my friendly mechanics' to get them done up ASAP.

Shakedown was driving north to Newcastle for the start of the Coast to Coast run, ~230 miles and aside from the wheel bolts it all went fine! Definitely a worthwhile upgrade from the 2.5i :D

Wash n polish… not planned tbh, got caught in a downpour last night so, after it dried up earlier today, set to work removing the mess 🤦🏻 excuse to wash the Mini too

My 3rd brake light finally fell out today, ordered one from Amazon, should be here tomorrow. Took the old one out and repaired it with glue and tape. Put it back in again, works fine for now. Been a really nice sunny day here and I wasn't going to miss a drive out in the Zed. Easier to remove than I thought but almost lost one of the springs inside the boot lid. :headbang:

Major repair yesterday, about a grand cheaper than a new roof. Might pop one on the other side for a bit of symmetry.

You can pick up a good condition 2nd hand roof for around £250
Cheers j3nks79 but it's fu#k#d anyway, I found some wetsuit patches and decided to have a laugh. I'll probably put a new one on over the winter but in the meantime I'll still have a crack at the other side and keep driving. If you close one eye and squint with the other it looks sort of new(ish) already. :driving:

New one arrived Sunday from Amazon, so next day, fitted it on Monday. Easy job but not quite curved enough but okay. Keeping the old one as a back up as the glue stuck well.

Yes mine is starting to have a little hole now, thinking of taking it to a hood repair place to see what can be done.

Hi Mikey, I've been pointed towards Aurotrin in Ivybridge by a few folk. Maybe worth a look, if I beat you to it or find someone else I'll give you a shout. :driving:

Thank you Nick that would be great, there is a place in Bovey Tracey near the marble place that I went to just after I bought mine to get some extra padding put in my seats. I think he does roofs as well. Didn’t get the seats done as I got used to the discomfort

Careful where you cut the holes in your wetsuit.
You don’t want to be flashing down the beach

I installed a new BMW one a couple of years ago and it was the same, not curved enough. That's why they crack!
