What have you done to your car today?

Acquired this beauty around 4 months ago. It wasn't until recently that it actually "clicked" for me. I am coming from a TT 2.0 and while the car was "perfect" in every aspect, it lacked that BMW character that we all love with its pros and cons.

So, I have decided to add 18" wheels + Hankook tires, painted the kidneys black, and did a complete detailing despite my little knowledge on the subject. As long as you love the car, learning becomes a joy.

The colour is stratus gray (code 440) for anyone wondering, it was added in the facelift versions. Rims are Carmani Fritz 18" ET35.

Added the OEM sub woofers. Major improvement on the sound

What are the part numbers involved in this? I don't have subwoofers, but I would like to at least add that protective housing that I see on the photo you posted.

Finally got the Carbon tailgate with polycarbonate window finished . Lots of pain to get the gain :headbang: . I will do a full write up on my build post if interested https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=143997 sometime in the next week but for now a few photos taken today . Not sure yet about whether to get it part or all painted in Montego Blue or leave as is :?

Well its a very good fit.
Paint? Well I suppose it depends why you fitted it? For weight saving then paint it as you don't care who knows its CF.
For looks, leave it as is, though in my eyes the different colour does affect the lines of the car.
The bit that looks a little odd is the sides of the roof still being blue.

However, after some altercations on another thread I would just like to say this is purely my opinion, and even I don't listen to me. :D

Yes mainly due to the fact that nobody has done this before with the Geoff Steel tailgate that I know of so I was working blind . Didn`t help that they fitted the wrong size fittings for the few fittings that they actually build into the tailgate . Now that they are aware of this issue it will be easier to fit but there are still other issues with fitting the trim which I will cover in my build post .

I still think blue into a carbon fade on the rear edge would looks great.

I am going to leave it a while as it is and make a decision later .

It took a lot of messing about with to get it as it is . Maybe because it is the first time I have done something like this .

Not bothered about people knowing it is carbon fibre really as it was the weight saving I was after . It is indeed the sides of the roof going into the tailgate that bother me so may get the tailgate painted .

It doesn't look quite right like that. Maybe a carbon wrap on the roof would help?

The roof is carbon Mr T or did you mean the sides ?

Sorry I did mean the sides - it might tie in better then.

Worth a try, would not cost much if it does not look right

As it is, it looks incomplete,

Good to hear these comments as it is how I was feeling .

Are you planning on getting any more carbon fibre panels? Maybe get and fit those first before you decide on which direction you wish to pursue. In my mind, I was thinking of a carbon fibre bonnet, I'm unsure if other panels are available in carbon fibre.

In my mind, I was thinking of a carbon fibre bonnet,

I have asked Geoff Steel about making a bonnet but had no reply . Apart from them other carbon bonnets are very expensive especially when you add on postage from abroad and I have already gone well over budget . I have made some choices too quickly on this build rather than waiting and I think the time has come to wait for a bit and consider things more . I am not really happy with the colour flow but I have just had the tailgate 2K clear coated . Yet again I should have waited to see how I felt about it first but it was cheaper labour wise to have it clear coated before I fitted the polycarbonate window and the tailgate to the car .

For what it’s worth, I think it looks fantastic as it is. You’ve done such a good job of fitting it too. Not doubting your skills, but I just didn’t expect it to fit that well to be honest.

Having gone to all that effort and expense it would be sacrilege to paint it and effectively hide it, surely? I would leave all that lovely carbon on show if it were mine, but then maybe I’m a bit of a poser 😀🤔

Whatever you decide to do it’s a - good work! - from me
