What have you done to your car today?

It’s been a busy few day on the z front celebrating 1 year together,
Day 1.finally finished sound deadening both doors, having a good clean up inside, sorting electric mirror not returning, new foam on one side and chrome line door pull, which you can still buy new amazingly.
Day 2. ceramic coated and rebuilt newly painted 108s,cleaned out wheel wells ceramic coated brake calipers, fitted new genuine mats and wheel centre caps.Torqed wheels.
Day 3. Went out for a spin to warm up engine oil and test tyres, oil service was to come later and changed oil level sensor which was throwing up a code, jacked the car up on one side and got a bit more old oil out of her.Took over 7 litres, the handbook says 6.5 l capacity.
In summary we’ve done over 4000 miles and she’s never let me down, but I’ve changed, refurbed, modified, spent, learnt a lot and had a lot of fun in the process.
so thanks to all on the forum for inspiration and knowledge. Now some photos 👍.

Excellent work, but i would be a bit concerned at how black the 'cats' are looking! Any codes?

No codes but he does like to help out in any way,he especially loves all the Autodoc boxes that arrive on a regular basis.

@Robster68 were you expecting a black cat in the box when you ordered it???? Is there nothing you can’t buy from Amazon?

That must be satisfying after all this time

Oh, absolutely! I hate looking at my Zed while it was damaged but now that it's all fixed up, it's brought my love back for it.

If you meant the real black cats on the car😉 I replaced bank 2 after the cat lambda sensor this year after a code and I’ve just replaced bank 1 before cat sensor on my n46 2.0 e91.

Messing with brackets takes so long for this type of install I purposely started with passenger side. Knowing what I know now, driver side should be much quicker.

Alas we still have a hose pipe ban here in Cornwall. So I after enjoying a few miles across the moors yesterday, I dug out the bucket and gave my humble, but oh so much fun Mx5, a darn good wash. :D

New goodies day,
looking for recommendations for fixing foam barrier to the door,I recall enuff_zed recommending something in an old thread but can’t find it.

Butyl tape is what you need. I’ve ordered some on Amazon and door membranes are on order with BMW, as whoever did it last stuck them back on with duct tape and decorators caulk

QWORK® 1 Piece Butyl sealant Tape 9.5mm Diameter x 13ft, Black Butyl sealant Rubber for Automotive Truck Headlight Window Door Windshield https://amzn.eu/d/8bLe3Tl

Passenger window wouldn’t go up or down, so stripped the door apart to investigate. I’m no mechanic, but I think I found the issue - see pics  Window regulator cable appears rusted through and although there’s no sign of water ingress, the door membranes have obviously been off before and stuck back with a combination of duct tape and what appeared to be decorators caulk  Lots of scraping later and I was left with tonnes of sticky gunk, however auto-finesse tar and glue remover turned out to be my saviour. That stuff is magic and cleaned them up like new! Checked drivers side too and regulator seems fine, but membrane was last off in Roman times it appears as it was a mosaic, stuck on in about 20 different pieces.

2 new door membranes on order from BMW - £40.01 each. Ouch. Also noted a few broken doorcard clips, so new ones are also on order. Butyl tape arriving from amazon tomorrow to properly fix them down. While doorcards and membranes were off I decided to apply sound deadening to the door skins (inspired by a post on here and also Rob (Usel) who is always a bad influence when it comes to mods :D ). I can confirm the ‘satisfying clunk test’ and overall feels much more solid when closing the door. Passenger door will follow once I get my hands on the new regulator as I figured it would be easier to apply with the regulator out, once I come to swap them.

Thanks for looking, sorry for the pic overload!

Was that for me? If so, battery disconnected and left for 20 minutes before removing airbags

Learned my lesson when taking seats out for the first time. Once bitten, twice shy! :D
