What have you done to your car today?

Today I’ve mainly been giving Kinger a hand removing the defunct water pump from his 35is, the car was on ramps but space was still tight & the uppermost retaining bolt was an absolute pig to reach as the pump’s positioned just above the anti roll bar.
It’s off the car now & waiting for the replacement to arrive tomorrow

Job done, not the most pleasant of jobs but its done, I certainly wouldn’t want to be paying main dealer prices for it.

New windscreen went in yesterday! Car came with a few large stone chips and spider legged crack. Finally got round to having it replaced with new wipers. Its amazing how clear the view out feels now because I couldn't unsee the chips/crack before! :D

I’m needing a new screen, lots of small chips and scratches, one big chip near the off side edge. Not sure who to use as I want a OEM screen, who did you use ?
Thanks.

I just went through my insurance. £15 excess for repairs or £100 for a new screen which I went for. They instructed Autoglass who came out to the house. Doesn't affect your NCB

Can't believe I am having the next MOT on the Zed, today. Where did that year go ? Clean sheet as expected. Better than last year with new front ARB and drop links done over Xmas Sorn time. The tester pulled the handbrake up and said ' thats a good one !!' I was always worried it was crap and was planning a shoe change this winter, but if he said it was good, I'll leave well alone :D . Was absolutely biblical weather here today, like many and roads were flooded. Put back in the garage and sprayed over with Optimum No Rinse and dried off. Dehumidifier can do the rest . Next car is next Saturday for an MOT. And the next the following month. Seems the 6 month extension from Covid has chucked all the MOT's together now

New wheels day. Took a bit of a gamble on these. Ended up waiting 5 weeks and they turn up and it's tipping it down outside. :headbang:

Doesnt affect your NCB but is a marker on the vehicle and you have to show a claim against you/ car for the next 3 to 5 years, depending on who you are asking for insurance. So, remember the dates as its a pain to remember :D

I’ve had a few windscreens replaced in my years of driving and never has a subsequent insurer asked about it or noted a previous windscreen replacement. Think I’ve probably had 10+ insurers in 20 years; never been an issue.

Couldn't wait, curiosity got the better of me. They sent M14 bolts instead of M12. Just to top everything off so using old ones until new arrive. I'm quite happy with them :-D :-D

Thats weird, as I had on line quotes which would go no further for me unless I contacted the insurer as they said there was a windscreen a few years earlier that I didnt advise as a claim. So now , I just add it in. It doesnt affect the policy cost but they consider it a claim against myself or vehicle.
Plenty of info on the web, but found this as a starter

New drop links, new belts and lots of cleaning and prepping.

So gear box out and clutch off then the flywheel not bad for 7 hours on axle stands in my garage on my own

Car has done 99,500 miles and the clutch and flywheel look to be in very good condition

Have since the photos cleaned the gearbox

Need to buy a clutch alignment tool

As well as all the parts that I am going to change

Replaced the key battery, now I can lock/unlock the car from a distance again!

Here’s a video on how to do it.

This weekend I:
1. replaced the valve cover gasket, took about 2 hours.
2. Replaced the oil filter housing gasket and while I was in there…
3. Replaced the ccv without removing the inlet manifold. Both jobs together took about 5 hours taking my time and going carefully.

All 3 jobs were much easier after watching the great videos by ‘50sKid’ on YouTube. I used the Febi-Bilstein replacement parts.

It actually feels like it is running smoother now. The ccv was gunked up with yellow sludge. interestingly before I did the job, taking the oil filler cap off with car running made no difference, now it makes the idle rough, which is more what I’d expect.

First differential oil change. After 16 years and 90 000 kms the oil was darkish but not black and there was some metallic sludge on the non-magnetic plug.

So got some of my own photos today on a wee run out with my boy. Got rid of the awful 'M' grille badge, sorted some weak washer jets (usual sludge blocking the filter in the washer reservoir), cleaned the hood with Meguiars Soft Top cleaner and it came up a treat, will need a second pass as I missed a few bits but made a huge difference. Started cleaning/detailing the engine bay too. Then washed it and gave it a quick coat of Fast Wax. Got a m8 who does paint correction so a machine polish and ceramic coating is on the cards shortly.

I made a video about it, is a fairly easy job!

Where's the link to the video please?

Here is the video mate:

Sorry it's on Croatian, but you will figure it out, it's a simple job :)

I just purchased my Z4. I have been pressing the button but hear no locking/unlocking sound or the side light flash. My car only unlocks the doors if I'm within close proximity. Do you think the internal battery is dead?
