What have you done to your car today?

New pads and shiny discs... My 1st brake job. Easier than anticipated but my fingers are now all sore from fighting the rear pad sensor connector box.

Cleaned out my windscreen washer bottle....boy was there some Gunk in there around the filters....As the screen wash filter is lower than the headlight washer, the screen wash flow was really poor... forgot to take some pics....maybe next time.

Also upgraded the idrive support for external devices from

MX-003.004.031 to MX-003.005.004
TX-003.004.031 to TX-003.005.008

No difference that I am yet aware of.....

Just finished grabbing the 1b.hex and creating a new FSC code for Western Europe, Premium 2020-1 maps.
Map load tomorrow from Premium 2015-2 to 2020-1.

ya gotta love Christmas Hols....

Fitted some bling
The Storm shifter and handbrake are great, the shift feels better overall, then the AC Schnitzer pedals went on. Just need to fashion a matching footrest as they don’t do one any more.

Will be starting painting the calipers and back plates next week, thought i would get these prepared and painted first, nice indoor job.Pad clips.JPG

Bought a ctek charger and stuck it on as when I went to start it the other day it was dead as a dodo. All good this morning though :)

Since the weather is less wet than it was I thought it was time to wash the Z4. I started by removing all the leaves and crap from the scuttle-panel area under the bonnet. I noticed there was quite a lot of crap underneath the panel itself. So I decided to remove the panel to take a look - it needed a few clips removing and removing both wiper arms. Turns out it was worse than I thought!

On the left side there were some leaves but under that the rubber drain was all bunged up with crud - a quick clean later and all was well.

On the right hand side there is some form of plastic shroud protecting the air intake - slightly worryingly there was a small pool of murky water collecting there! I took the shroud off and cleaned everything out. It seems there is like a rubber flap that lets the crud run into the engine bay and that was quite gunged up. All nice and clean now.

All done now and put back together - having a Rover 75 that has an ECU sitting in a well similar to that on the RHS above, and these regularly flood and kill the ECU when the rubber drain blocks up - I thought it wise to check.

A balmy 12c in North East Scotland today so the top was down and went for a quick 45 min blast around some country roads (with the heaters and seats set to max). What a difference a week makes; a week ago it was under a good coating of ice.

Noticed that the WOF (MOT) had expired on the Z4 (couple of weeks ago) so thought I'd better get it sorted today before a friendly parking warden slaps a fine on it, or worse yet have an insurance claim denied because the car was not legal to drive on the road...
Strangely, today was the first time I've had the testing station ask me to disable traction control as apparently the cars don't like the brake testing machine (makes the car think it has an excessive wheel spin condition and reduces or removes drive from the wheels). Because there's no 'traction' button on the E89 I took a stab and enabled Sport+ and they did the brake test ok. Not sure I deactivated traction control though. I've done some research and there's a 'helpful' chart that shows all modes and conditions under various combinations of Normal, Sport, Sport + and the 'DSC' button, but to be honest none of them really indicates traction control is 'OFF' so I'm still a bit confused on how to actually disable traction control. :?
On a positive note, the car passed the WOf with no problems (advisories)

I may be wrong but though I read Sport+ disabled both the DSC and traction control?
A bit of googling should find the answer

did plenty of googling and nothing seemed to specifically say what would disable traction control, but either sport + or pressing and holding the DTC button for about 5 sec may achieve it. Lots had been written on the forums but no simple 'do this to disable traction control' that I could see. Maybe should have looked harder, but sport+ seemed to do the trick at the testing station so I'll take that as a win

The engine bay is looking very nice - what did you use?
Thanks  Autoglym engine and machine cleaner / degreaser and then a heavy coat of chemical guys silk shine dressing. I spray it under the bonnet too and it stays shiny and clean for ages. I Only do it once a year

Started stripping out the seats,I bought a pair of manual M sport seats and are changing them over to the power bases from my SE seats.
and have now swapped the passenger seat from powered SE to powered M sport, just the drivers side to do now

A quick look in the manual suggest that a quick press of the DSC button switches off Traction and a long press switches off the DSC, and Sport+ also switches off DSC. I assume if DSC is off, traction is also off?

Excellent! the M Sport seats are just so comfortable and hold you in! Having driven Z4s with and without the sport seats I can say the driving experience is so much better with them.

Most people say that, Mrs FB will soon let me know if they are better on her lower back.
