What have you done to your car today?

Replaced my headlamp washer jet pump on my lunch break as for some reason they weren't working after removing and re-inserting the fuse.

They weren't working at first, but weirdly at speed tonight on the drive home, I gave them another try and they worked fine.

Very odd  at least they work now and it only cost me £14 for the pump

Just replaced MAF on zed 3.0i. Symptoms: rough stuttering start but would be ok after a few minutes. This morning, problems didn't show up but will monitor before feeling more happy.

Used Carly to program the auto fold on the side mirrors when locking/unlocking the car.
Not quite 'full' auto, as you have to press and hold the lock button on the remote for a couple of seconds to fold the mirrors (I guess this is to give you a choice as to whether you want them folded or not), but they auto-unfold as soon as you hit the unlock button.
Well pleased

I changed the cam cover gaskets today, thinking it would not take to long but I was wrong :x . Who ever decided to do it last time decided to use silicon sealant all the way around on everything :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: Took me hours to clean it all off but all done now and seems ok so far. :driving:

Admitted defeat with removing the whippy - after trying both WD40 and heat!! Looks like the stubby mod is one I’ll have to pass on!

I can't wait to buy a new car that doesn't require this much effort constantly! It's like a never ending saga of replacing silly little things that add up to being a massive ballache!

I only replaced the top ones, as I couldn't access the other 2 without removing the light surrounds. I couldn't figure out how to do that so left them in the hope they don't need replacing.

My thoughts exactly, I was considering chopping the z for a new and sensible s3/golf/m140 but I couldn't bare selling the Z so I used my man maths and decided to chuck more money into the Z :P

Replaced the knackered bump stop bonnet ejector thingy on the drivers side with a brand new one. Then tested the n/s one to feel how rough it is compared to the new on the O/S , for it to go 'Bang' and break
So, tonight have ordered the N/S replacement one :x

Really? Should be a simple case of hold the bottom section, rotate the top section anti-clockwise.....

I had to chew through the old aerial with a pointy pair of pliers then you can get better grip on the square nut molded into the rubber. Then unscrew.

Mine was proper seized in too . To the point I was worried it would snap off the thread. it did eventually come unscrewed and I ran an M5 tap down it to clear all the crusty white gunge out and screwed the stubby in with a touch of anti seize grease.

Tonights mission was to umm and arrr about front brake pads. Outer visible pads had about 3 to 4 mm, which made me think they were fine. I had bought some to fit, but thought they were Ok. So, surprise to see the inner pads ( which is common) were a ' lot ' less meat left :?
So, the pistons moved back easily and after a bit of cleaning the slider pins were put back into slider mode from stuck mode
Front brake sensor was more of a ballache than the rear one. All done in an hour and road test seems , even though its bedding in time to be better than the 'Jurid' pads I removed and fitted Mintex ones.

Last night, being warm in the garage, I used a Gtechiq kit to ceramic coat the glass. So vigorous buffing was called for in cleaning the glass. It recommended 1 coat on all side and rear glass and 3 coats ( 1 every few minutes) for the windscreen. So, after coating and leaving for about 15 mins, as recommended , you use a glass cleaner to clean off the misting left on the screen. I am lead to believe it is like a rain ex coating , except it lasts a lot longer. As to how well it works, I cant say yet :D But the glass does have great clarity . Whether from my big buffing session or the ceramic I dont know.
Today has been to my neighbours workshops for gearbox oil changing. Both drain and fill ( 8mm allen ) plugs undid with a crack and exited into the drain pan the old oil. The workshop is about a 10 minute drive , so the oil flew out the gearbox and was the consistency of water. It didnt look bad the oil, just old oil. There is no lifetime oil , not for us with cars as old as ours. Need a T shirt change from the sploshes too :? . Managed to get a nats genitalia short of 1.9 litres in before the drip appeared from the fill hole. Was an easy job to do , if you have a pit to work in . First gear change told me things were a lot better than they were . The journey home seemed smoother and am very happy to have done this job. The Valvoline oil is great stuff and at just over £20 for 2 litres , is a no brainer to save syncros and baulk rings from wearing.

She's usually a garage queen but I'm having a load of stuff delivered for house improvements & she's going to have to stay outside for a while. So I've treated her to a half cover seeing as it's so sunny outside  . Seems to fit really well & shouldn't move with the wind.

Having had the roof motor relocated 2 weeks ago I thought it was time to clear the water out of the drivers side well. Great success with the wire coat hanger pinched from the wife's wardrobe.

Changed the gearbox oil and changed the power steering fluid

So that is all of the cars fluids changed.

Also locked myself out of the house and had to drill the lock out with a neighbours drill as all my tools where inside.

On call as well so hopefully there will be no calls during the night and I can have a full nights sleep.
