What have you done to your car today?

Also need a new screen Ben never noticed when I bought it but my one is cracked across the bottom in the black bit! Do you need a new seal or do they re use old one?

Bugger :headbang:

The windscreen company put a new seal on, but it's usually aftermarket and not the best fit. It's only cosmetic though, to cover up the sealant, so not a major issue

Took the front wheels off and gave them a Wonder Wheels clean inside and out, removed the old weight stickers, removed the tar spots and wheel waxed them. Surprisingly satisfying hour or so. Just got the rears to do now.

Came up really well. I'd be hitting those wheel bolts with some satin black (or matt if you like) to finish the look

Yeah, I thought that tonight when I put them back but I ran out of time. Think Hammerite would be suitable? Sure I have a spray can in the garage.

I just used a standard satin black from a rattle can (taped off the threads first) on my E85 and they lasted surprisingly well. I imagine Hammerite would be even more durable being specifically designed to protect metal from knocks etc.

Get some wheel bolt covers, cheap and effective  nice work.

Just did my wheel bolts in Plastikote gloss black. I just stuck the bolts through a piece of cardboard and sprayed them. Took 20 mins to dry and then a further coat. Good stuff if you can find it

Little bit of emery cloth to remove the crud and a lung full of air to blow it off and off I went with the spray can :D

Same old, same old. Cracking drive up to and across Dartmoor. :driving: With a few crags thrown in whilst I was up there. What a scorcher of an afternoon 8)

Drove the Zed to the parents' house, then around town a bit. Got home to find smoke coming from the engine (again), and oil weeping around the engine cover (again), so it's back to the garage to have them look at it (again). This E89 has been in the garage more times in 5 months than the E85 was in 5 years. Bloody frustrating.

Very sadly deposited my baby at my mechanics early this AM. it will be sitting outside in the cold for three days before they get to look at her on Monday.

It has developed a rather loud grinding and clunking form the front of the engine under the rocker cover region when started from cold after sitting for a few days. It only lasts for a few seconds until the oil gets around it but is not good. They thought it may be a timing chain tensioner, and this mornings noise was significantly less than the last time she was cold started. They have secured a new one, (last in NZ apparently) and fingers crossed it will be this and nothing more major.

Such a bummer, as the forecast for Christchurch this weekend has Zed cruising written all over it .... :(

Turns out that the starter motor is buggered. The battery is also stuffed so that will need replacing too. Quite a relief really as I thought it was something in and around the head - another great example of why I am not a mechanic ....

I've still got my OEM BMW E85 battery which was always on the battery conditioner while I had it in the car, if you want it.
Unless you're getting it replaced at the same time as the starter motor.
Good to hear the problems should be relatively easy to fix, and not engine-related
