What have you done to your car today?

Ordered a full set of Eibach springs from Germany to replace the broken one I found the other day.

Good choice  it's a straightforward easy job fitting them.
I have the rears off already, Ill have to wait until they are refitted before I remove the front as there are not enough places to support the car, the front is on axle stands and the rear is supported on both my trolley jacks at the moment. There isn't anywhere to support the car so I can remove the jacks.

As you say it's best to get the rears all fitted before tackling the front. Personally I'd Jack up one side at a time to fit them. Think that way you'll get more height.

installed new springs

swapped both corners on the rear, only one cracked but other was rusty too.

car is booked next week in for a front control arm replacement(couldn't get the arms off on the side of the road so gave up and will pay someone to replace them) and full hunter alignment.

It's been a good day for the Zed today...

Got the Eibach spring set put on after purchasing a set on here that are as good as new (thanks MickM  ). I really wanted to tackle these myself but the car was going in for an inspection 2 so made sense as he only wanted £150 labour. Also had brake fluid changed.

So after that it made sense to give the outside a good clean:
- engine bay detail (finnished with dressing)
- proper good wash and leather
- clay bar
- super resin polish
- extra gloss protection
- exhaust chrome polished
- hd wax.

Time for a well deserved pint. A photo to follow as soon as I've got the bloody wheel cleaner off of my face.

Managed to pick up a bargain Stormworks V1 :D
Just need the rain to go off now so I can try removing the old knob with the roof down!

3m Vinyl Wrapped my wood grain. No more looking like a Buick! I chose satin black since it would blend better with the other black parts. Not a fan of carbon fiber either as it would have looked out of place with the tan interior.

I had been saying the wood grain was plastic laminate. Boy was I wrong! It's actual burl wood. When I was removing the dash piece, I chipped a piece off and to my surprise, it was actual wood. I had to glue the chip back on and sand it down so there was no lip. My trim also had a long crazing line in it, so I sanded it flat as my trial piece of vinyl showed the crazing cut.

I also did not have much of a issue with the infamous ring on the dash piece. I looked at it with a mirror and stuck a screw driver under one side of the tab and simply popped it up. This can be done after the vent is removed.

I think I'll write up a little how to on some of the issues that I had.

So I'm getting my front control arms replaced on thursday, wonder if garage is going to be able to remove the lollipops without damaging them? I have installed them a month or so ago so they're new, no need for new set! but looking at some youtube videos a lot of people struggle to remove them in one piece without damage.. so it got me thinking.. anyone has any idea?

You maybe ok if they have a proper puller, which I imagine a garage will have

I did have a puller and had no issues, so I'll see what the garage says, better to discuss it before they get to it I guess.

So I've had my bodywork inspection for the corrosion warranty. They didn't want to see service history etc but have found some differences in paint thickness. He said he's unsure if it will all be covered but will send off the report to the warranty team anyway. I'll be expecting a call at the end of next week. Fingers crossed.

Presume you have a rust issue.

Nice! Looks great, a good days work.

I was surprised when i first touched the silver trim in a Z4 to find it felt cold and realised its actual metal.

Ducklakeview modified exhaust back box fitted http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=89154#p1316825 makes a great sound, thoroughly recommended. I can't fault Mike he does an excellent job of the box and it was all shiny with professional looking welds complimenting the well made BMW back box. I reversed into his garage and up the car ramps (without hitting his drain pipe as has been done) and my box was cut off and modified box fitted within 30 minutes and a test drive later I was off enjoying the drive back. Cant fault Mikes work he used the best materials and does a great job with obvious pride in his work. Louder but not obtrusive, most of the great noise happens on acceleration with some crackles and pops when the pedal is released.

Went on a club drive down to the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham via the Dales.

Black Sheep 2.jpg

Had Roast Lamb Sunday Lunch. Then loaded up the boot with beer (to improve traction you understand) and cruised home up the A1.
Then washed, dried and covered the coupe before the rain came.

Typical coupe boot rash on the underside and a few tiny bubbles on the rear arches. Find out later this week if they'll cover it.
