What do you think of your 20i's

Are they big enough for 2 weeks worth of long haul holiday clothes?

Well we had 2 weeks worth of clothes but not sure what you mean by long haul. We had a bag each and I had 2 pairs of jeans, smalls, couple of shirts, couple of jumpers, about 6 or 7 T shirts, smalls, 3 pairs shorts, toiletries and a light jacket. When the bags are in there is a space between them and the seats which we filled from the cabin with trainers and in the gap where the boot cover ends when you pull it down we had a coupke of rain jackets. We used the shelf behind the seats for maps, kindle, hats etc.

All in all we didn't feel we were lightly packed

I do like the look of the roadster bags, it's a good solution to the restricted space problem with the roof down.

I wouldn't bother for the E85/86 - I was about to buy a set when I found the "Tripp " cases at Debenhams . The boot of the E85 is 820mm wide and the cases 410mm wide. Two cases go in very neatly and leave space on the top for a small breifcase and light coats/sweaters . There is also a space for a few bottles etc behnd the cases.

In the E89 roof down I reckon they (roadster bags) are a good bet and will probably buy some this year.

I wouldn't bother for the E85 but would probably get some for when I get an E89.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread, I've just agreed to buy a 2.0i MSport Space grey/red kansas with a chunk of options and the Msport suspension delete, 7 months after going to a 320dSport Plus E92 for practical reasons, a warranty visit to sort out my headlamp washers has resulted in an impulse buy back into the Z4 fold!

You know what these forums are like though - a finite amount of information and yet an infinite number of posts from some! I joined when I had my first Z4 and had an issue with the 5 star 18" wheels, then lurked on the JaguarXF forum whilst conducting a year long fling with an XFS, before coming back into various BMW's. The E89 2.3i MS I had was lovely but on my 290 miles commute too thirsty to make a long term proposition, the E92 320d I have is a fine car but just a bit too sensible, so with so many delivery mileage Z4's around at the moment the financial side of the move made sense, my only concern was the performance of the 2.0i.

Personally I've found the positive reaction of 2.0i owners as reassuring, whilst the performance of the car seems in keeping with its nature - brisk and mature. The 2.8i would have been perfect for me but they aren't about for 23.5k with 5 miles on the clock and some good options! Having had some motorbikes and higher performance cars the 35i/35iS would seem as compromised to me as the 2.0i, there are better/faster/finer handling performance cars about but if you like the looks and the feel ( and the noise on the 6 cylinders [ good for about a 5mpg drop on the 2.5's I'd had! ] ) they are brilliant cars. :D

I meant, using the car to drive to the airport. Sounds like you can get everything in the bags.

Read an interesting statistic in straight six on the new model launch - the 2.0 sdrive accounts for 80% of new E89 sales.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new 1.8 out sells the rest of the range, buyers today want reasonable performance and economy, cheap to tax and insure etc, not the larger engined gas guzzlers bought by the minority. I can't blame BMWs direction in the market.

Tim.

Without all the 20i sales there might not be another Z4. Maybe :idunno:

At least the larger engines are still available so you can get one if you like.

I've no doubt the 2.0lt is a good little motor but wonder how you'd make the transition from a big six to a little four? I pondered for some time when I made the change and sat down and did the sums.

I came to the conclusion that us low mileage owners needn't worry about fuel cost as it makes liitle difference.

3000 miles @ 30 mpg = 100gall =£650
3000 miles @ 45 mpg = 67 gall= £435

I'm sure they will give us all choice for some while yet I hope!

Which car did you get 45mpg from? My 20i read 28mpg on the computer today when I filled up.

Have been thinking lately....I love the look of the car, but do think the long bonnet is meant to hold a large engine. Happy with my 20i, and dont miss a bigger engines performance (cos I never owned one before) but would like one if I could afford it! Alas, 28 -33 mpg is killing me, I couldn't go any lower.

Depends on mileage of course.. I do short trips, 7000 miles a year avg and get 26mpg from the 35i.. No bad for a big six. If I did more miles I'd get better consumption but then I'd be doing more miles!

If you are getting more than 20mpg from a 35is you're not driving it properly and may as well get a 1.8. Just need eyes in your backside watching for Rozzers

Have a look on Pistonheads at how many 981 Boxster S's are for sale (there are page upon page of them from OPC's). Many of them pre-registered by the looks of it. Doesn't look like they are selling either.

I was only trying to demonstrate that doing a comparitively low mileage in a less economical car doesn't cost cost a lot more cash. I wasnt being specific.

It did suprise me that you only got 28mpg from your 2.0lt tho as that what I get fom my 3.0lt - :D
