What colour and what spec - looking at joining the club

Hi All,
I am just in the process of looking at joining the club and getting a Z4M (prob coupe).
Was interested on what options were the must have's if I ever want to sell it in the future and also if anyone had any thoughts on colour?

I have seen a red one that is of interest but not really a fan of red cars and not sure it is the best colour for resale based on the nice blues/blacks that are around.

Thanks for your input.

They look great whatever the colour...but also a fan of the darker colours. My roadster is carbon black - very interesting colour - slightly different in different lights

Happy hunting, I'm sure you'll enjoy the search.

Thing is I don't understand why people look for a car on the basis of whether it will be easy to sell later.
Surely you should buy what you like.
Many folk seemed to have been brainwashed into thinking a car should have this or that, or be a particular colour rather than all the variations be appreciated for their own merits.
Not meaning to have a go but it just seems a shame to be coerced into buying the safe option.

Milu, I understand what you are saying but when a car is the biggest way to loose money over X years it seems to make sense to try and minimise that by going for a spec that people will want (or peer presure says is best!).

If there was a specific colour that I liked then I would go for it any way but nothing really stands out which is the reason for the questions.

All this talk of car colours makes me wonder what I have become....... that's my wife's way of buying a car :D

Welcome Nathan

To be honest I don't think there are any specific options that are essential to have or essential when it comes to selling time. It seems to me that the majority of cars do have bluetooth so maybe that has a lot of demand. But for everything else just buy what you want. Nav is nice to have, not only for the integrated nav system but for the other functions that the screen provides, but there are plenty of cars out there without it.

As an aside, I'm not sure whether I'm naive for believing that the number of options has a direct impact on the used value of the car? What's everyone else's view?

Oh and I think the only colour that people sometimes say could devalue a car is Phoenix Yellow, and therefore used prices should tend to be lower. Personally I love it and would have bought one if I had found one in the right spec.

Maybe its my TVR experiences from the past...but buyers were open minded about colours. There were greys and blues of course but also lairy colours too.
The opposite seems to be Mercedes where silver is the main colour,so punters are afraid to spec much else(generalising but you know what i mean)in case they cant sell it.

Hi there Nathan and welcome to the forum.

I agree - the Imola red on the ///M cars looks great. The darker colours - especially the blacks - seem the best from a resale point of view (seen some photos of midnight blue cars on this forum that look fantastic) but show the dirt / dust / swirl marks a bit more.

If I had the chance again I'd probably go for the dark grey (sorry can't remember the proper name) as the best compromise between looks and practicality. But in my opinion the most stunning colour for the car, especially the coupe, is white. Drool :D

As for options: satnav seems the most important, especially if future resale is a concern. Also things like bluetooth, extended leather and one of the higher spec hi-fi options are good for resale.

The things I have on my car that I really like are cruise control (peace of mind in average speed areas), rear parking distance sensors (even though you sit near the back, rear visibility from the coupe is not a strong point), folding wing mirrors (handy when garage space is a bit on the tight side), piano black dash (I just like it :) ). I also have the heated seats (work really well but only of any use for around 4 months of the year) and one of the multi-speaker hi-fi options (it's nice, but for the sort of driving I do I'd much sooner listen to the engine and do my music listening in the comfort of my home).

Hope you find a nice one.

If it was me, I would start by looking at the interiors then go from there. I prefer a light interior. They tend to be with the darker colours. The blue / beige or pearl grey combo looks fab imho. My pearl grey interior came out of a blue coupe.

I wouldn't concern yourself too much, buy what you like, enjoy the engine and worry about resale later :) Any M car will be desirable if it's been looked after....

I only know of two M cars that could not be sold, both were Imola and neither had SatNav, both were roadsters though.

Colour/interior is a personal thing. There's a red roadster for sale at the moment that has a black and red leather interior but a wood trim. Horrible to me but someone will like it.

Options are always a help selling on so the more the better, especially upgraded sound, nav and bluetooth.

Best option by far is the ability to lower the roof- priceless :)

By the way, there's a stunning white coupe for sale at Halliwell Jones, Warrington at the moment. If I was to have a coupe that would be it!

Hello, and welcome Nathan. It's Nathan here.

First of all, whatever you do don't get a red Coupe. It would be too weird to have 2 red Coupe owners called Nathan on here

Seriously though, I just went on condition rather than colour. There were so few available when I looked that I couldn't really pick and choose, plus most of them seemed to have most of the options. I wouldn't have picked a red one had there been more choice.

Whatever you get, it will have the patented BMW orange peel effect paintwork, so maybe try for a colour that masks that.

Loving the lob sided M badge ...

you mentioned about this on a red roadster that was for sale on here the other day, guessing it's not the same one though.
