What car next?

I'm looking for suggestions for a practical, economical and reliable car and wondered what your SENSIBLE AND CONSTRUCTIVE  suggestions may be.

Some requirements
Below 135 g/km emissions petrol, sub 120 g/km diesel
I get concerned by DPFs on diesels, tend not to like really tiny turbocharged petrol engines (e.g. <1000cc) in biggish bodies
I want to be able to carry a bike or two inside plus 3 passengers. Failing that, something easy to put a bike rack on (perhaps able to have a towbar or roof rails)
£12k max
No more than two years old.
Scared of more than 30k miles
Will be financed so if there are any manufacturer funded deals, then a bonus.
Ideally would like 1 year/15k max
Needs to be under warranty for a good while. Modern cars without a warranty scare me.
My future mileage is unknown. Realistically I will be able to do some business travel by train but will do 270 miles a week at my own expense and then on site visits on expenses wherever I can't easily get to by train.
Easy access to dealerships

Cars considered so far:
Used
BMW 3 Touring (stretching money possibly)
Mercedes C estate

New
Dacia Logan MCV (strangely drawn to these!)
Skoda Roomster 1.2TSi 86PS £9900 new/7.9% APR
Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSi 86PS estate £9995 new/7.9% APR

Nearly new - yr old/15k ish miles
Vauxhall Insignia diesel
VW Golf diesel (stretching the budget)

Modern Turbo Diesel with DPF you be needing to do 15 mile run every day otherwise it has trouble trying to regenerate and therefore bungs up , your over that so no issue. Have a look at Hyundai or Kia or the newer seat Leon , the petrol in them is pretty good drive . Your on the boarder line mileage wise to petrol or diesel so work the figures on purchase and fuel over 3 yrs and see what comes out ahead .Hyundai i20/i30 in diesel would be a good choice and there are some good offers on i30 turbo diesel auto's at the min , Warranty is good as well.

Ps

Buy nothing French :D

Agreed. So that punts the Dacia out of the window as it's a Renault under that god-awful exterior. Plus, this excerpt from a review made me laugh out loud:-

'Try the flimsy door handle on a Logan MCV and you will be transported back to a time when shell suits were cool.

“Goodness, this is cheap,” you think, as you clang the door closed and run your hands over the cheap plastics.

Things don’t get much better when you fire it up. It’s not the three-cylinder engine that’s the problem, but the driving position, which consists of a seat with all the support of a Government minister in a time of crisis'

 ...and that was the good stuff!

For me, look at the common models eg Astra, Focus as there are loads of them and their residuals are diabolical: so cheap to buy at 1-2 years old. Hyundai is a good suggestion, too, as is Kia for cheap and cheerful.

Have fun trying them :-)

If you are looking at C class / 3 series size then last years Auto Express used car of the year may be worth looking into 8)

I,m not normally a fan of anything "non " german when it comes to motors but in all honesty i enjoy life with my Astravan & would definitely buy another

Not unless you also plan to paint yourself beige and give up on life.

I've got one, it's huge inside and slow as f&@k. Does 600 miles on a tank. It's the perfect antidote to my M

I picked it in Sri guise based on the adjustability of the driving position to get comfy for long trips, the Sri seats have extendable seat squabs, angle adjustment, lumbar etc....

I bought it on 60k miles for a pittance and expect to get most of my pittance back when I sell it,

It also makes you appreciate the Z every time you drive them back to back because it's not exactly the most interesting car I've ever had..... :)

Have a look at SEAT if you're considering skoda.
Leon 2.0 Tsi FR+ at £11k - or the 265 cupra for a bit more.
Seats down bikes in no problem.
