Just reading about the BMW N52 engine with its fancy magnesium block making it the lightest straight 6 engine in production.

So howcome the 3.0si (N52) weighs more than the 3.0i with the older engine?

My sources are saying it's either 10 or 20kg heavier.

Parkers- 1290 vs 1310kg
Carfolio- 1365 vs 1375kg (EU)

I can only assume it comes from other components being beefed-up for the extra 30bhp?

Bigger front brakes. Bigger standard wheels 18 vs 17". Are the M seats heavier, suppose they might be?

surely the lack of orange paint must have saved some weight ?

 Should do!

As said, little bits like bigger brakes and other parts will add up. An although the engine is lighter, it does not mean all the ancillaries will be lighter as well. The engine cover looks like 2kg :D

The Amber indicator inserts in the headlights are also lighter than the clear counterparts.
