See I like it, I want to be provided with the information, the system is simple, amber, orange and red, it gives you an indication of what to expect, how severe or likely and you can then work around it. For instance if there is an amber warning for snow, I wouldn't worry about the four hour drive to work, I can see where, when and how bad it will be. If it's a red warning for snow, I'd stay at home all cosy, bring some extra logs in for the fire and make sure I've got sufficient provisions. If it just said snow, one snow flake or two, what does that actually mean?
The crux is that I am informed and having information I can make my own decisions, I don't see it as the state nannying, state nannying is a 40 mph speed limits motorways before roadworks or a broken down vehicle or debris which is miles away
